Also agree with Alias and Brewer.
I let mine get switched off last year and got a very good deal.
Am prepared to do the same this year in order to get a similar deal.

EDITED TO ADD - My posts refer to Sky TV packages only, not phone or broadband etc.

I'd be wary of the deals that are offering 10 months on a 12 month contract.
You need to do the sums to check if it's really the bargain that it seems. Especially as the tv prices usually go up in the summer.
And also, as soon as you come off the Live Chat/phone and sign in to My Sky, the 50% for 12 months deal is there anyway.
    Meanwhile I'm waiting for better!

We have been with VM since FOREVER. Infact our email is an old blueyonder.
Not in any deal so called to discuss better deal or cancel.
Current package is 50mb fibre optic bb
    Basic M tv package
Line rental free w/e calls paying about £42 dep on calls made.

BT have a half price deal due to finish this week of 80 freeview TV channels,28 epremium channels, free BT sport, free wi fi spots, up to 38mb unlimited bb infinity 1 for £20 + £17.99 line rental + £35 activation fee.

VM weren't interested in any negotiating other than speeding up our BB on the initial discuss, cancel day.
VM offeedr close to BT deal for £48, they called us back today to offer this.
Guess our cancellation is proceeding with VM.

Given we are out of contract are there even better deals?
Need unlimited BB as a given.
Really don't want hassle given the email address we have to change.

That is not always the case.

Last year I had just a message on My Sky,saying they could make no offers via the site, but to call them.

This year, again , nothing on My Sky, but I received an email with an offer; first for a tv deal, then one offering free bb and Sky+ services for taking line rental.

as part of a 3 box deal along with 2 tivo's 500 i was offered a ...recordable HDV+ box.... I told them i'd think about it but when i have searched on their site for info on this box i can;t find anything. They have info on V+HD boxs but these can't record and i don't see any other boxes except the tivo box that can record. Any advice .....

I am not happy with the creeping northwards of my Sky bill. I used to pay in advance for line rental and I now subscribe to anytime phone package.
I also have TV and broadband and am wondering if it's better to upgrade to fibre via TCB or phone up and haggle. Or perhaps I could order the fibre via TCB and then haggle?
What is the best thing do you suggest?
    Thanks very much.

Give notice on tv, to receive an offer. These appear to be initially for 10 months on a 12 month contract and then improve.

If you sign up for fibre, you will be in a new contract and so will have lost any bargaining power for phone/bb.
  • Hi

I wondered if anyone could recommend any good broad band and call packages? I am currently with Sky and have told them I am leaving due to the price hike, they aren't interested in offering me a better deal even though I have told them that I know there are better packages out there.

I tried talk talk and agreed a new account but have cancelled it as I was not impressed with their customer service at all!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

    Good for you.

I assume you have given Sky 30 days notice to cancel. Wot have you got with them ? TV, b/band and/or phone ?

You will get offers from Sky on day 30 of your cancellation for your tv; it will probably be 50% off deal. Make sure you have got marketing selected on you mysky account to make sure you are advised of any offers.

For b/band and phone, you will also get offers.

I negotiated for my dad a few days ago. I am very experienced and online chatted with sky as well as talking to them after 2 days that he told them he was cancelling. You can try this and it may work if you are lucky but you may have to wait for 30 days to elapse before you are offered a deal.

For my dad, I managed to get him :

    1. 50% off his tv package and he is not in contract.

    2. For phone, he is on a 12-month contract and is paying £5 per month less for his phone line rental.

    3. For b/band, he is getting free unlimited b/band for the 12 month contract.

He is now paying almost 50% less than he was paying before.

You can try other suppliers (Ttalk, BT, VM, etc.) but they won't be able to compete with sky especially if you are using sky sports and sky movie channels.

    HTHs.
  • Thanks for the reply Stephen

I am out of contract with sky and have given them 30 days notice for my phone and broadband,

I have basic Sky tv package as well which I am not looking to cancel.

    Cheers

I wonder if that's because you have more than tv with them?

I should have made it clear in my post that I was talking about Sky tv ONLY and not phone/bb etc. I've gone back and edited my post to make it clear .:)
