When I cancelled , I was offered 10 months with 50% off, on a 12 month contract (specifically). After refusing, the 50% for 12 months offer quickly followed.

It appears that all retentions people do not have the same offers, as after a mix up, I called and the account person I spoke to said he would find a member of staff who had the 50% plus £50 credit offer, on their system. (The person who messed up my account said she only had a straight 50% off offer).

The mess up did me a favour, as the £9.99 line rental offer disappeared while a manager was sorting my account, so I got half price rental instead.

So I've done the deal this morning -not quite as good as I hoped for:D
60% off all TV for 12 months plus £100 bill credit.
New HD box, Family pack plus Sports. Had to take HD pack at £5.25 pm to get bill credit up to £100. Effectively works out at £21.51 pm (just under £5 per week)which is slightly more than the cost last year...but I've now got HD :T:T

so here is my response to duchy :

I did not ask for a new router as Sky advised me that they 'can't order a WIFI router as you can get ondemand via a dedicated line'. Sky advised me that to communicate the above to the engineer when he visits my dad's place later this week and, if there any probs, to give them a call back.

Very impressed with the Sky phone agents that I spoke to today but less so with the lady I got on online chat. She was very poor and did not seem willing to offer any good deals for my dad to stay.

One interesting item to note. When I spoke to one of the agents this morning, he advised me that my dad's cancellation yesterday resulted in my dad being put back with 'the customer win back team' and after he spoke to them, he then offered me the 50% deal for TV. Perhaps they have more remit to offer deals than retentions do.

    HTHs.

Not entirely sure what that means to be honest. Sky's newer boxes have built in WiFi to allow connection to routers. They can also be connected by Ethernet.

Not sure if this helps your Dad or not.

The win back team can offer better deals than the retentions department. Usually the retentions department are offering deals for 10 month with a 12 month contract. The win back team are usually the ones with deals over the whole 12 months with any further minimum term.

Thanks. My dad has not got an Ethernet cable and, where his router is, he won't be able to get an Ethernet cable connected to it. The sky operator was not sure when she spoke to me so I will wait to see wot the engineer says to my dad

He would be able to use HomePlugs - far better than WiFi anyway.

i am coming to an end of a promotional deal with sky and for what i use of their services cannot justify paying 36 pounds for the privilege.
So went on the chat. Paul, the sky advisor, asked if he could call me. He came out with an offer of just over 20 pounds for 5 years. And later with an offer of half price for 10 months on a 12 months contract. I told him i am not happy to pay more than i am payjng right now (£18).
He went on and on about sky benefits and after my refusal for any of his offers became almost agressive, telling me that i WILL NOT get any further offers and that they will refuse me as a new costumer for the next 12 months.
i am happy to cancel sky tv and will only consider it for the right price. I will be happy with freeview/freesat and now tv box for the kids channels.
as i switched off the phone i had already on My Sky an offer for 50% off, which is what i was looking for. What a joke!!!

Agree with Alias_ ; last year, I got a good offer a day after switch off. This year ,I've actually negotiated my deal a week before the cancellation takes effect. I was happy with my final deal:D -but possibly if I'd let the TV go off ,I could have made an even better deal!!:)
