Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

I think calling is better, as I have only once had a foreign call centre by phone ( an information call), but all via chat were foreign (ie working from a script with no discretion).
Disagree. When I was on chat last year (I think it was during a weekend) and was with India, I was offered a good deal (50% off and no contract). Just make sure you save the chat and send am em to record it.0 -
Had no real intention of cancelling the sky, but been out of contract since Aug, so thought i'd see if I could get a deal out of them...
Did a live chat, short wait to connect, and right off the bat just said
"Dont haggle with me or faff me about, I want to cancel, am switching to virgin for faster BB and to save money with deals they have on, so either make me a comparable offer to stay, or start my canc process..."
Agent came straight back with, free 12mths fibreUL upgrade (currently on BBUL), with free activation (£30), and also 50% off the tv and line rental for 10mths, on a 12 mths renewal...
All sorted in about ten mins!

Total monthly cost with phone line and what TV package?0

Entering final month of 60% off, so went online chat to give one month notice. Agent on chat asked if they could phone me instead and offered another 60% discount - but only for 10 months. I asked if this meant another contract and they confirmed it would be for another 12 months. I stated I was only interested if the discount covered the full term; agent adamant that they can only offer 10 month discount, so I asked them to proceed with cancellation. MySky is already showing 50% discount for 12 months, so let the waiting game commence!0

I refused to deal with any 10 month offers and, within days, received an offer of 50% off plus £50 credit, by email.0 -
Hi there,
After successfully using the tips provided by users on the MSE forums 10 months ago (to negotiate a 10 month, rolling contract, 50% off deal), the time came today to, for the first time, negotiate a new deal to take over from the last one.
Unfortunately, I got a really stubborn guy this time who eventually gave me the same 50% off deal for 10 months... but as part of a 12 month contract. I was wondering if that's par for the course these days, or could I have achieved the exact same I had before (50% off, but no 12 month contract)?
Also, the guy (Paul) reckoned I'd only be paying for 1 month at full price because if I time giving 31 days' notice correctly, the last month's bill won't be for a full month... or something! I can't see how that works when it's a 12 month contract, but thought I'd ask if anyone can shed any light on an explanation! If it's the con I suspect/presume it to be and a 10 month 50% off deal is available without the 12 month contract, I might try to use it as a bargaining tool!
Thanks!0 -
It's not a "con"- it's a discount, afterall!
The discounts that Sky reps can offer differ from customer-to-customer, with Sky's objective being to give the lowest discount required to retain your custom.
Customers often get better offers by negotiating harder- e.g. refusing initial offers and/or allowing the notice period to expire/their subscription to be "switched off" for a time.
I don't get the last bit either- if you give your notice 31 days before the end of the 12 month term, then it's 10 months at 50% and 2 months at full price; assuming that you don't receive/accept a new discount during the last 31 days!0 -
Just cancelled Sky via on line chat. Best offer was a paltry £10 discount for 10 months or reduce the bill for a reduction in the package. Advisor says that 60% discounts are never available, which is surprising given the posts on here.
Just had a letter through from Sky. Offer now 50% off for 12 months with a free HD+ box thrown in. Happy with that.“Britain- A friend to all, beholden to none”. 🇬🇧0 -
Thanks pen1! Sorry for the confusion - I used the word 'con' in reference to that last part regarding the 1 or 2 months at full price confusion, not the sort of deal being offered. The deal itself is all a game, of course!
I'd still be interested to know if 10 months at 50% is achievable right now without the 12 months contract commitment, if anyone knows or has negotiated such recently?0
