Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

Simple answer. Let the 30 days cancellation period expire and then speak to Sky to get a free box.
Worst case.....just buy another box off ebay.0 -
It can make a difference.
The problem is your Line Rental and BB. If it gets switched off you will have a cancellation fee of £30, will probably lose your number and will have to be reconnected by BTOR.
The TV is a different matter as it's just a flick of a switch.
It's always on the main My Sky tab. However what marketing preferences are set - have you allowed contact for offers?
I would suggest you get onto this link and see what can be done. It would have been better just to cancel the TV and then wait for offers. Once you had an offer you could have then negotiated the LR and BB.

Hi
Thanks for your reply. In the end, I found the retentions team number, called them and got 60% off my TV, which includes movies and sports. For BT sports, I will take BT broadband which was the same speed as sky and you get BT sports package with that. Overall I get a lot more for less now0 -
Mine is due to be cut off today (i actually thought yesterday) and the best they've offered so far is 50% for 10 months and £50 credit. And this was from them calling me last week but nothing on MySky
Gonna hold out and see what happens but i can't last too long without Sky!!0 -
My Virgin Media contract is coming to end soon and I am unsure whether to stay with them or switch.
I like VM because of the Fibre Internet, and I still cannot get BT Fibre in my area.
Currently VM is costing me around £54 P/M for the following:-
100Mbps
TV M+
Phone XL
I love the TIVO Box for the ability to record 3 shows at once since I rarely watch TV when shows are live.
I still seem to only watch 'Freeview' channels such as BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5, I guess I am not much of a TV person.
The only thing I stream on the internet is films through BlinkBox and sometimes Now TV and I generally use the internet for day to day things, news, shopping, forums etc.
Landline is hardly used by me except to call two people, same two people call me back... I think I could certainly ditch this if it would equal a saving each month, although not sure how the two people who do call me would feel about having to call a mobile instead.
I would like to renegotiate a package with VM, any ideas on what I should be looking for / going for in order to save a bit of money.0 -
Just had an hour long phonecall with sky. Ended up taking:
50% off sky tv for 10 months
£4 off multiroom
£2 off line rental
£2 off hd
£50 credit
Also took up fibre optic unlimited for £10 a month with no connection fee.
Total monthly now £73.
I was given assurances that if i ring up after 10 months the offers can be reapplied and i insisted this was noted on my account so if there are any problems in 10 months a mega complaint will be going in0 -

I almost guarantee they wont apply whatever discount you have this time again after 10 months.0 -
I absolutely refused the 10 month offer, as you have no leverage until at least 11months, when you give notice.
After cancellation an offer for 12 months followed with a £50 credit,too.0 -

Did they want you in a contract for the 12 months?
Last year my deal didn't require a new contract and I'd really, really like the same deal again this year, ie not having to contract for 12 months.
I'm prepared for it to be disconnected because that's when the best deal came in for me last year so I'll keep hanging on.0
