Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

Hi
After having had Sky for about 8 years, I have got this forum to thank for giving me the incentive to "tackle" Sky on their prices!
I have had various deals over the last 3 years ranging from free equipment upgrades (2012), 6 months family and films both for free (2013), cancelling completely for 10 months last year not an offer but the best way of saving money!
Currently on 50% off and £50 bill credit until Dec. (with a replacement HD+ Box as the last one gave up at the same time as cancelling in 2013!)
Each of the last few times I have rang and cancelled and then waited for an offer that suits.
After saying all that there is a lot to be said for my solution last year of using a Humax Freesat recoding box as there isn't much to choose between that and Skys basic TV Package. For me it boils down to Game of Thrones which is hardly the basis for whole years T.V.package.
In short it will be cancelling time come mid November.
I have one question someone may be able to answer.
If when you cancel and then clock rolls on for the one year that Sky then does not consider you a customer does the MySky web access to your account and offers stop and also calls from Sky making you offers?

I gave notice in July and was turned off on 2 August. 10 minutes on live chat today and was offered 60% off Family and Sports pack for 12 months. They wouldn't budge on the ridiculous HD charge but gave me a £50 credit. Overall quite happy.
Now for BT....0 -

Now for BT....
My sky went off yesterday ( I was on a 60% off deal). I got a 50% off pop up but not a 60% off. Also, How did you negotiate the £50 credit?
I will return to sky but only for a 60% off deal. The problem is once you have had 60% off you don't want to feel like you are going backwards! I can live without Sky for a few weeks.
Sky box is on freeview channels at the moment. Good job as I have just signed up to BT broadband and phone via topcashback. With all the cashback and Sainsburys voucher, it means I will be paying £12.50 per month for BT Sport with HD and a phone line with 17mb broadband
I'm keeping my virgin 50mb BB however at £13.50 per month on a rolling 30 day deal as I am out of contract just in case the BT sBB is rubbish. I only signed up to BT for the sport and phone line anyway.
I reckon once the football season starts this weekend, the retention offers may get better, hopefully......0 -
So do you have a Virgin phone which you are now moving to BT?
Nope. Don't have a phone line at the moment. Virgin offers their BB without the need for a phone line.
A land line is always a "good to have" although these days with mobiles and Skype it is no longer essential. Just need to be wary of where you hand out your land line number. You need to remember that your primary number is always your personal mobile.0 -

Yes I realise that. However normal 50mb BB without phone line is £28.50 so you have a very good deal for yours.A land line is always a "good to have" although these days with mobiles and Skype it is no longer essential.
It is essential for ADSL BB though.Just need to be wary of where you hand out your land line number.
Indeed but my Truecall unit does a fantastic job.You need to remember that your primary number is always your personal mobile.
I'd never use my mobile number as my primary number.0 -

Good for you. Feel free to continue with your current supplier. Many thanks.0 -
Took Martin's advice and phoned BT threatening to leave.
They've knocked £12.15 a month off broadband and £14.99 a month off BT sport giving me an annual saving of £313.68. Worth doing for 20 minutes on phone.0 -
Confused is your BT Sport HD at a less £14-99 pm .
Or have they charged you for free BT Sport as was .
What are you paying now ??0
