Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

Hello everyone.
I left sky at beginning of June as I was going to go to Virgin. A couple of days ago I received an email stating that if I returned I would have 60% off any sky bundle for 12 months and £50 bill credit.
Spoke to live chat who said he could not find the exact offer but would match it as close as he could.
Anyway......
I have chosen to go for sky family bundle, unlimited fibre (38mb) and line rental when I spoke to him.
This is what I was offered:
''Sky Advisor
I have changed you to the Family Bundle this will be £21.50 for 12 months. £36 normally.
Sky Advisor
11:41
Unlimited fibre will be £10 for 10 months, Normally £20
Sky Advisor
11:41
Line Rental will be £8.90 for 10 months, Normally £16.40.
This is a total of £40.40 for the first 10 months and then £57.90 for the final 2 months. 12 month Family bundle contract and 18 month phone and Broadband contract. Package price is normally £72.40.''
He also honoured the £50 credit which will be taken off my bill.
Is this a similar overall price to what I would have received if I had gone for 60% off of family bundle and half price fiber for 6 months from original email? Line rental would have stayed at full price.
I have tried working it out but I am very bad with maths.

Option 1 - Assuming 12 month contract
TV: £21.50 x 12 = £258
BB: £10 x 10 (£100) + £20 x 2 (£40) = £140
LR: £8.90 x10 (£89) + £16.40 x 2 (£32.80) = £121.80
Total for 12 months: £258 + £140 + 121.80 = £519.80 (£43.32 a month)
Less £50 credit: £519.80 - £50 = £469.80 (£39.15 a month).
Option 2:
Family bundle @ 60% discount x 12: £14.40 x 12 = £172.80
BB: £10 x 6 (£60) + £20 x 6 (£120) = £180
LR: £16.40 x 12 = £196.80
Total: £549.60 (£45.80 a month).
So option 1 is cheaper over the 12 month term.0 -

called last night, they could only offer £15 off for 6 months "and this is the best deal you will get" , according to the advisor, so went ahead and cancelled, just check my account and now offering 50% off for 12 months, i guess i have to go through with the cancellation to get 60% off and a credit ? or are people getting 60% off before the disconnection ?0

Quick question. How long between cancellation did you get the 50% offer come up on your account? Literally a few minutes/hours?

It was two or three days for me.
And deanos - I got 60% off and a cash credit of £20 five days after I cancelled.
However, from reading others' posts, I probably should have played a bit of brinkmanship and waited a couple of weeks; it seems I could, maybe, have gotten a lot bigger cash credit.
My problem is I live with a sports fanatic....0 -
For me it was within minutes.
Thanks Jem.
I was paying just under £60 for Original,HD and Sports.
Cancelled on Live Chat at 9:30ish and they offered me....
£43 to stay on Original with HD + sport. Told them to bog off and cancel.
Went straight onto My Sky and said about 50% off so went on live chat again. Offered me...
£40.50 for Family with HD, sports and movies. I was going to accept but thought be cheeky and ask for some M&S vouchers for the Mrs. He said sure thing but I can do 60% discount as well if you'll accept that. HAPPY DAYS.
So ended up with
£33.45 for Family,HD,Sports & Movies for 12 Months and a £50 M&S Voucher

I hope these good deals stand until my renewal time, later in the year, but suspect they may be due to competition from TalkTalk's current offer which ends soon.0
