OK -if you aren't totally dependent on a working phone line /broadband and can be without for a period of time.
Sky TV cancellation is much easier:)
thanks for the information, I guess that may be enough to discourage a few folk. Fair enough.
It wouldn't have been an issue for me as I could rely on mobile data and calls if I did get cut off for a couple of weeks but tbh I've done it this way a few years running now without problem and assumed it was failsafe.
Maybe the same deal would have been made available if I'd have just requested a MAC code anyway, however my own experience has been that requesting a MAC code just gets you an offer of free b/b....I'm greedy and want a hevaily discounted line rental too :-)0 -
Hi, wondered if anyone had any advice regarding my issue. My Grandmother has had Sky for about 20 years, never had a discount til this year (only about 30%), on the basic package, but still has a digi box! Don`t even think it`s a Sky one, think it`s Grundig or something.
Have recently been explaining Sky+ HD to her and wondered what my chances are of scoring a free box from Sky?
I`ve tried gettin in touch today but apparently there`s no one home on Live Chat.
Anyone had any similar experiences?

Very happy with my offer in the end. I phoned first time to arrange my line rental and broadband. Got offered free broadband for 12 months and pay line rental for £16.40 with a bill credit of £30.
This was better than last years half price broadband and £2.50 line rental discount so I was happy.
Phoned back again and spoke to TV section and they did 50% off Family and Movies and line rental for £9.99. Bemused I asked would I get free broadband still and she said yes. Never heard of £9.99 line rental but she laughed and said 'you must have done this before as I have no free broadband offer to apply', which means all operators have different offers.
Total cost with HD, evening weekend calls, Family and Movies and broadband is £41.74 with a £30 credit. Cost previous was £32 as we had 75% off TV.
Also all TV deals are now 10 months but you can phone back before then to arrange another deal.0 -

My Aunty was in exactly the same position. I posted about it a few pages back.
Call up on her behalf and cancel, politely decline any offer they give you on the phone. Then create her a my sky account online. When you log in there will be a link to chat that is always available.
Then during the 31 days notice period go on my sky and chat that way. Ask if they can make a better offer then was made on the phone to tempt you to stay with sky.
I've actually done this for a few people the past few weeks. Make it clear at the beginning any offer must include a new box and an offer that doesn't will not even be considered. It usually goes like this. They'll say great news they can give you a new box completely free, at which point you say great but would it be possibly I get a discount on the sub as she can no longer justify paying full price. They usually offer 25% at this point. Politely decline and ask if that's absolutely the best they can do. They'll then offer 35% off. Again say thank you but since that's their absolute best then just let the cancellation go through. At that point they usually ask you to hold then say they've spoken to their manager and they can do 50% off.
Be polite and just decline every offer until you get one you're happy with. I got my Aunty 50% off and a free 2tb box and installation (when the engineer came out he actually could believe how old the box she had was). Got a friend 60% off and £100 credit.
I did push for a refurb box and 60% off for my Aunty but they wouldn't budge.Sigless0 -

..thats the sort of deal I'll be after when my current deal ends in October -my old Sky+ box is getting increasingly cranky:rotfl:0 -

I currently pay over £80 for Entertainment Plus Sky HD, plus another HD box for kids, broadband and unlimited phone etc so with new costs definitely want to bring it down or cancel and use other companies to supply the same service
Try the technique I described earlier in this thread, it seems to work0 -
As Sky is due to have another rise next month I decided I'd had enough and called them to cancel my TV deal. I was paying for Sky Family, Sports & Movies, Multi Room, Unlimited Broadband and Sky Talk. The whole package came to £104.40!! I have been with Sky for 15 years.
Go through to cancellations and tell them its too much and you are not willing to pay that much any more. Be nice and tell them straight away you do not want to reduce your package just to make it cheaper, as you were happy with the deal you've got. Don't even get into a discussion about reducing costs as they will offer you a pitiful deal. This throws them a bit because they can't believe you want to ditch everything in one go.
Wait a couple of weeks then you will get a letter in the post saying they will offer 35% off your TV deal id you stay with Sky. They will tell you to log on to sky.com/staywithsky and either phone the number given or go on livechat. Definitely go through to livechat and say that your deal is due to end in 2 weeks and what offers do they have to make you stay. You will be offered 50% off straight away. Say thank you very much but say a friend was offered 60% off and £120 credit on his account. They will come back with 60% off but say they don't offer credit any more. At that point say thank you but no thanks as its not worth it. Suprise suprise you will be offered to begin with £50, but stick to your guns and say you want £120 or nothing at all. You will then have to do a bit more haggling and may only receive £100 credit but still a good result. Once I 'd agreed to 60% off and £120 credit, I negotiated for half price multi room and half price HD as well. Definite result.
The next day and called cancellations and said I wanted to cancel my broadband/line rental and was going to Virgin. I said that Virgin fibre was a better deal etc as my current broadband is poor quality because of the number of users in the house. I was then given Sky Fibre Unlimited for the same price as broadband and I even got them to waiver the £6.95 postage charge for the Sky Hub to be delivered to my house.
So if you want a better deal from Sky, always threaten to leave and never just call asking what deals they have available. They need your custom and the more you stick to your guns the more discounts you'll receive. Just don't cave in on the first offer and keep asking for what you want.0 -
hi. How do people get LiveChat to work? The option under Contact Us is always busy, and I can't see any other option like someone said above.
Also, just called them up, i'm in my final month before my current 50% offer runs out. Instantly got given a free month so 'I can think things over' LOL.
I'd prefer to go on Live Chat next time though so if anyone can show how you get on it I'd be grateful.0 -
Woo Hoo! I just tried livechat & had success!:beer::j
I cancelled Sky & have been without for about 3 weeks - we had a 1 month subscription to Now TV (free through TCB) so haven't really missed too much. Was missing the SkyBox though!
Phoned & said I was offered 65% off when I called to cancel - we actually were & in hindsight we probably should have taken BUT as we'd previously had over 2yrs FREE & then 1 yr at £8 for family + boxsets I was hoping for more!
I have 60% off +£115 credit - making the Family + boxsets £14.40 a month (after price rise) + £115 credit That's £57.80 for a year or £4.82 a month - cheaper than using the Now Tv box!
RESULT!:T:T:T0 -

If you go onto MySky and look at what your offer is then there should be a box that says either contact us or chat with us - this is under your offer - I might have looked first at extras available & then it came up under the offer - which was 50% in my case.
Try it & if they don't offer what you want then keep at it - I said I knew people had been offered £120 and 60% off. I'm well happy with my result. If you don't get what you want then you can always try again.
Just adding that after I phoned to cancel there was between 25-35% off on Mysky BUT as soon as the month was up & the sky box turned off it rose to 50% off.
I was awaiting a phone call as I'd rung them just before the month's notice was up - the operator couldn't give us a better offer than 50% off & told me to ring after the time was up. I didn't as thought I'd go with Now TV (free via TCB) for a month & hope I'd get a better offer. As soon as I came on here & saw people getting 60% and up to £120 cashback I thought it was time for a try on livechat.
I was offered 60% off & she said there was no cashback available. I told her 'too expensive' & others are getting cashback, so she came back with £50 cashback. Said I'd have to talk to hubby so came back with £100 off. I reiterated so that's for family HD & boxsets for 12m?
She said yes & then gave me a figure of £32+? for 1st month & then £14.40pm after. I queried the £32 as over 2 months upfront - so she then added an extra £15 cashback.
If you don't ask you don't get!
I wonder if going to Now TV entertainment pack for a few weeks helped me to achieve a better offer? Cancel it straight after you've paid too, as it's a Sky product too, it will go on for a full month after cancelling. You can also get a months free Sky movies - we'll probably use that in the summer when the TV goes carp.
IF you can do without for a month or so I think you will get a MUCH better offer. - We've had 2yrs free, 1yr at 75% off & got a free Sky+HD box too.
Use Now TV & try for the best you can - we're well pleased!0
