    Tenth Anniversary Combo Breaker
Just called up Sky after pressing option 4 to get through to the cancellations department and now have half price TV for another 6 months - not too bad considering my last half price deal ended just 3 days ago :-)

I just told them that I was struggling to pay but loved Sky and their packages and that through a mixture of Quidco and joining either BT or Virgin that I could make some money and save on my current Sky deal for TV.

Just beware that the phone operator did ask me to name the price of the alternative packages and what exactly they were offering... luckily I had the tabs still open on internet explorer.

Bring on January for the next deal...

Could you give the details? I will give it a go too, as my 12 month subscription is a month or so from ending I think.

I just tried Virginmedia retentions today to get my price reduced - I currently have tv xl, broadband M and a phone line, no package on the phone line. I pay £41.90 and I was told that I couldnt' be offered anything at all. Does anyone else have similar services at a better price?
  • i rang Virgin yesterday. was getting L tv, M phone, M bb, V+ box & additional box paying 50 quid. Said I wanted to leave to go talk talk & just use freeview. Said they could cancel my additional box, drop to M+ tv keep V+, but would match phone with eve & weekend calls, bb same, all for 33.90. I said I needed to pay less than 30 so she agreed to add an extra credit of 4 quid to take it to what I wanted.
Do you think this is a good deal?
They dropped my tv to M though in error so I rang back today to complain. Must admit I hoped they might offer me more in apology but wouldn't. Also I hadn't realised all this was added to my account as a credit so I basically get 2 months free then pay 33.90, is this normal practice?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

My first year is up with Sky soon so might give them a call and ask what my options are. The worst they will do is not give me a discount, but I pay a fair amount at the moment

My first year finishes next month so I gave retentions a call yesterday. Very helpful/friendly adviser gave me 25% discount for the next 12 months which I thought was decent enough and accepted.
She even advised me to make a note of the date to get any deal next year, which will be July as the deal actually started as from yesterday.
  • Just rang sky and they halved my TV subscription by 50% for 6 months. Told them was going to move to Virgin with their recent promo offer "sky switcher" and they guy knew exactly what it was. Also, Sky are offering ESPN FOC for 3 months too, he added that on also. Nice! Remember to ask about espn in case they dont mention it.
  • Called threatening to cancel sky sports (which I was prepared to do) saying that due to increasing utility bills in the face of pay freezes, meant that I didn't have enough cash to spare on things like sports.

Instantly offered 20% off TV for 6 months.....nice!

Been with virgin since NTL days, in fact I still have an NTL box & a steam driven tv:). I have BB size L, phone size XL with £2 for 08 no's & TV size XL. I pay £ 49.99 for this.
Called disconnect team today and was offered Tivo 500 and an HD box for another room with the same package I have for £49.90 a month but with £49.99 set up fee, no monthly Tivo cost.
Don't know wither to take it or cancel....really object to the set up fee but they wouldn't budge on it.

I'm quite interested in this has anyone had any similar experiences? I too have a box from the NTL days and its about knackered I think. I fancied a V+ box but was put off by the fee. I don't think its unreasonable to ask for it free given that when I moved house I took all the stuff with me thus saving them money and giving the engineer an easy job :)

My only other concern is that it creeps up by a few quid every so often, looks like I'm going to have to play the game and give 30 days notice.
