Can't believe it! Just rang Virgin Media to cancel our TV, phone & broadband package due to increasing bills. Instead, they offered to keep the call package, upgrade the TV and broadband, send us a wireless router, and reduce our monthly bill from over £50 to £21!

Just wish I'd rung tham sooner - could've saved a fortune!

    Thanks MSE!

Changed from what package to what package please? Sounds like an excellent deal.

  • Well i just rang up to cancel Movies Packs and 'enquire' into Sky+HD 1TB box as a replacement to me Sky+ Box.

    My current Package:

    Sky HD Pack
    Sky Multi-room
    Sky Variety Pack
    Sky Style & Culture Pack
    Sky Knowledge Pack
    Sky Movies Packs

After 38 minutes, (yes i know!), I have a Sky+HD 1TB Box with Engineer Installation for £49, with the HD Pack (£10.25) and Multi-room Pack £10.25), 2 Month FREE Movies Packs, then 20% off entire Package for 6 Months (no tie-in).

CONFIRMED - HD PACK £10.25 PER HOUSEHOLD - FROM AUGUST BILL

I spoke to 3 different departments, and after 3 conversations to 3 very helpful (again... yes i know!) people, i am happy.

The assistant explained that you need to play with the system to get the best deals, and if i want the box for £49, i need to have an engineer come out instead of self set-up (i don't care, saves me doing it!).
I can just cancel my existing HD pack on the standard Sky+HD box, and cancel the Multi-room subscription from my standard Sky+ Box, and it will work out the same.

She also put a conditional clause in my contract that if the HD Pack per household does not happen, my contract is void and i can keep the box free of charge - it must be happening then!

Instead of paying £58ish/Month for a Sky+ and Sky+HD Box, i will now pay (from August) £50.50/Month for Sky+HD Box and Sky+HD 1TB Box.

So, to sum up, i am very happy.
  • Long story short(ish). Long term Sky customer but cancelled 15 months ago because of neighbour's tree blocking signal (true!), 3 months later Sky ring and offer variety+all movies+all sport half price for 12 months (so £24 pm) plus a £50 credit - now this coincides with neighbour telling me he is having tree severely pruned back so I agree to new deal and tree was pruned 1 month later (I'm a happy bunny). This deal ends on July 27th so 30 days before this I ring to cancel in the hope of a new deal but also accepting this as unlikely; they let me cancel (cue much moaning from various family members..) but I play it cool expecting to have a couple of months without Sky before a new offer when.....phone call today; would I mind completing a survey describing my customer experience....yes, of course - the nice lady asks a few basic questions and then expresses surprise when I confirm that no new 'offers' were made when I called to cancel and asks if I would be open to an offer (well....what could I say) and how about a 6 month extension of the original half-price deal plus another £50 account credit - to say I nearly bit her arm off would be an understatement, cue much love and appreciation from my oh so nearly deprived family and I'm back in the good books at an average monthly 6 month cost of £15(ish). Happy days.

    downshifter.

I've taken the plunge and cancelled Virgin media, lady who took the cancellation didn't try and keep me at all. I'm looking at current BT infinity deal to replace.

Got a follow up call last night as the lady wanted to know my security password (why would I give some random stranger my password?) before she would talk to me. Is this the normal way Virgin try and keep customers?
  • If you used to have Sky, and still have the Dish and a box - you can get 12 months half-price by quoting SkyTVA.

£9.75pm for the basic package - 50p a month for the extra entertainment packs.

I get the feeling from this offer you can get Sky World for £26pm (which includes movies, sports and all the entertainment channels)

  • Tried to ring up Virgin to see about upgrading my normal Virgin box to either Virgin + or Tivo = they wouldnt budge - i have to pay £60 to get the Virgin+ installed and everything or pay £50 for TiVo installed - surely this can be done much cheaper?! We've been with them about 17 month and use them for everything, tv, phone and broadband..
    so far....Radox Waterproof book...10 Business cards (ideal for new pad!)...Fabric samples...Shower timer...Flush saver...Seeds ahoy...

For the SkyTVA discount is there somewhere to type it in on the Sky site, or does it have to be by phone. sky site is currently quoting me £41.75 per month for 3 extra packs and sports package, though Ginger Warrior reckons its available for £26.??

It has to be done by phone, not over the internet.

Just of the phone from virgin media retentions. Spoke to a very helpfull guy who said he was from the Sheffield call centre. He offered me:
    L Broadband (10Mb unlimited downloads)
L Phone (evening and weekend calls)
XL TV (all channels except Sports and Movies)
All for a 12 month contract of £39.99 per month.

£5 per month less than what I'm paying at present with S Broadband and 20GB download cap.

    I'm happy :D.
