Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

I'm really bad at getting any decent deals.
I phoned Sky to see what their deals were, none. Basically was just getting the normal online price, nothing happening with the exception of the M&S Vouchers which really don't interest me much anyway.
Thinking of just cancelling everything with Virgin. The other day when I called them to reduce my telephone package they told me my price would actually increase. The only thing I'll miss is really the internet, would get something doen with that. However TV and phone ain't no big deal to me. We have mobiles with O2 with free calls (the wife), free texts (me). As for the TV the only problem is our little girl with her Nick Jnr and Disney, but think I'll just scrap it, as she has loads of dvd's which could easily be watched. And we have freeview. I also have access to Sky online (through my parents account) so I do have access to a lot of tv still.

I currently pay £72.50 p/m for Sky TV only. Have full package including HD and multiroom, only thing missing I think off my subscription is ESPN. Broadband and phone with VM as I need the 50mb broadband. They have confirmed I am entitled to a new HD box for free as the Thomson one is no longer going to be supported. I know people don't have crystal balls but wondered what people thought of this request I plan to put to them.
What I would like is the new HD box plus a 2nd HD box for upstairs, preferably one with a hard disk, and ESPN included for the same price basically with no equipment or installation charges.0 -
Not quite related to reducing whole package but you can get sky movies free for 2 months (but you need to give them 31 days notice to cancel before 2 months is up else will be charged full price after that!)

Thanks for this! Not sure whether it is allowable for anyone who is currently on an offer with sky ie. 6 months half price as terms say not in conjunction with any other sky offer.
May need to investigate that, otherwise will take this up no questions asked!October Wins: £100 photobook voucher, sippy cup and booster seat.0 -
Does anyone know if sky have an outbound retention team if the first line inbound team fail to retain? Rejected their offer of 6 months half price because they wanted me to pay for HD installation and I'm convinced they can go that deep. Tactic works with vodafone so I'm hoping for a callback...0

Hi,
I am moving into a new place, and have never had digital TV before. Unfortunately I can't get VM in my local area but can get BT.
Sky are coming in a lot more expensive than BT and another option (Orange for calls and broadband and Freeview Sky Sports 1&2 top up TV) so I thought I'd call Sky just to see if they could do anything. Got put through to my local Sky sales centre and he very rudely told me that the price on the website is the price they can offer.
I'm more than happy to go with the other options but thought Sky might be able to do something! Any suggestions?!?!?0 -

Try again around the end of the month. Also, keep a watch out for cashback & M&S voucher offers on cashback sites such as Quidco. I got a really good deal off there when I joined Sky.0 -
Or try one of those stalls you often see in shopping centres. My mate got a great deal from them...well great as much as paying £70/month goes. Free installation, free HD for 6months, free multiroom 12months, 1/2 price line rental for phone line and free b'band for 6months.0

First time thread so go easy on me guys
Like a few comments others have posted on here i am looking to rejoin sky (left them years ago) was just wondering, when contacting them its best to say your a new customer or are thinking of rejoining? I phoned them last week because i am interested in getting it installed for the start of the football season, which looking online at their packages should work out bout £40 pm. When i got through to the salesman who was very rube and pushy he told me the package would be £62 pm!!! Im just wondering whether anybody has recently joined sky and got any sort of deals. Or if anybody else could help me it would be most grateful
slightly off topic i hoping to get bb with sky aswel cos my curent deal with talk talk expires 4th of august.Has anyone had any experience switching and is it completcated?

With reply to "Sky offer to install a free HD box" , that is because they will then add the charge on montly for the HD channels even though you dont want it or want to pay for it... Also i have had nothing but bad experiences with sky.. i tried to ring up to get the cheaper package that they advertise on tv but then they told me if i did i would have to open up a new account which ment starting a new contract and i didnt need it for another year therefore couldnt recieve the fantastic deal.. And dont even get me started on sky plus and how they conveniently dont ever mention that it doesnt work in flats unless you have two cables installed... so your charged all that money and it doesnt even work.. i think next time i will sign up with virgin.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
