Just thought I'd share my experience of ditching Sky.
Contract for Variety Pack and basic BB ran out in June. I didn't renew either and switched to EE for BB.
EE was a bit rubbish initially (slow) but in the last month it's not been too bad. My parents are with Plusnet and my BB is far more reliable than theirs - why do Plusnet get such high ratings for customer service?
Anyway, Sky have rand and written to me many times to get me to go back to them - I've ignored every attempt. I honestly haven't missed Sky TV and would have to be offered something spectacular to go back. So, perhaps, before you consider renewing your Sky contract, think about whether you actually need it.0 -
Called to cancel last week, we already had a 60% discount for Family Pack and Movies with HD. Bluntly put when comparing the cost of the service against NowTV it was too expensive. Anyway called a few days later to see if theres anything they could do....couldn't offer a higher discount so credited £100 to my account and continued the subscription at the discounted price.
My advice to anyone wishing to negotiate an deal, you really do have to be prepared to really lose the service to get good offers in excess of 50%. Although it is helpful seeing the kinds of deals people get on here, it is in no way indicative of the kinds of discounts you can expect individually. There is never any harm enquiring with retentions/winback however it really comes down to brinkmanship. Play it hard and they will give you a discount, Sky would prefer to have you as a discounted paying customer as opposed to lapsed cancelled customer.

Can anybody offer any advice on haggling with Sky when adding on BT Sports? We've been with them for two years, paying for the sports package which isn't cheap in itself, but the OH now decides he wants BT Sports as well which will really send our monthly payments through the roof. Any advice on what to say to them would be appreciated, thanks.0

I agree with you, but where's the fun for people like me who they're not even contacting to try to keep me?
I know what I'll accept from them but they're not giving me a chance to play the game. :rotfl:
Seriously, I'm prepared to lose the service, but I will miss the box.0 -

They can't technically give you a discount on the BT sports becasue you have to buy it off BT , however you can say you are switching to BT to get the free sports if your contract is up and they will give you a discount on something else to make the difference up0 -
Spoke too soon! Postman's just been and brought me a letter.
Offering me 35% off - exactly the same offer that's been showing on My Sky for nearly 4 weeks
Thanks, but no thanks.0 -

I cancelled it all (tv, BB, Phone) on Monday, only to get an email through saying tv was cancelled but they are glad we decided to keep BB and phone. So I thought I'd try the online chat to see what I could do. I asked for a mac code and explained I'd seen a great deal with EE so was going to swap. After several offers I asked I him to have 'one last check' for me and he offered me free line rental, and £2.50 off BB when/if my tv is turned off, so it's £7.50 for 12 months instead of £25.40! Just waiting for an offer on tv now. I've had several missed calls from 0800 915 9081, which Google suggests is either Sky or a scam pretending to be Sky. Can anyone confirm if this is a legit Sky number?
Thanks mate.
I quoted that deal and got the 12 months free line rental and £7.50 a month for BB. They were offering me £15.40 a month + £3.75 BB....0
