hello I am new to this site.

I would like to know if i have a good deal from virgin or if it's worth haggling...sorry if i get the terminology wrong.

BTW we have been with them since they were ninex!

    50mb broadband
phone line with any time calls
    tv xl
    sky movies package
    v+ box downstairs
normal V box (hd ready?) upstairs.

we pay £98.xx per month on direct debit.

I would like to get the 100mb broadband and Tivo box downstairs moving the v+ box upstairs & getting rid of the normal box.

best they would offer was £109.xx per month & £49.95 fee to cover box/install/activation. (this is for the small tivo box).

any help to reduce this would be great!

    thank you.

It sounds reasonable to me. You are getting the highest bundle they do, including TiVO, for just over a hundred pounds a month. It is always worth haggling and be firm with it, but if they don't budge, I'd say go for it.

  • Hi all,

I've just re-negoticated our Virgin package. We were on the following:

    TV - M+
    BB - L 10Mb
    Phone - M

    Total £33.99

    We now have
    TV - L
    BB - XL 30mb
    Phone - M

£36.99 plus £24 cashback to our account so effectivly paying £34.99 per month...

Think I could have got a better deal? Im tempted to call back and actually cancel and see if they call back and offer a better deal than that...

Bit of a second opinion required. Called Sky today to cancel with the intention of retaking in my partner's name at our new house.

I figured with Quidco cashback of £100 plus £25 in M&S plus a new HD Box etc we'd be better of than simply taking them with us.

I was offered the following to stay; new HD+ Box and installation two days after we move in plus half price package for 6 months, which makes it £22pm I think.

They've given me a reference number for the second option but nothing is set in stone. Can I get better to stay? Is it worth keeping my history to help future deals?
  • As someone in a similiar boat to yourself recently I would have to say that you would probably be much better off cancelling sky altogether and getting a completely new package in your partners name.
I recently moved house and had been with sky for 3/4 years but after seeing all the deals and offers floating around for new customers I decided that I'd leave sky and take up sky when we were in our house and get my partner to take up one of the new deals offered.
After phoning up to inform sky of this I was offered an additional hd box so I would not be losing out as I would have got a new box when signing up anyway. they offered to sort out the home move for me and, due to us moving out of the house and then not moving in to the new house for another month, they offered to put credit on my account so I would not pay for it whilst we didn't actually have sky active.
When we got in the house suddenly all the promises turned out to be rubbish. They did the home move but the additional HD box turned out to be a complete nightmare to get someone to agree to as all of a sudden it turned out that this was not something that should have been offered to us in the first place. They also forgot to credit the account for the month we did not use it so had to go through hassle for that. Since having sky put in the house I have had numerous problems with them setting up the broadband and phone line and wish I has just cancelled when I phoned up months ago as it seems that Sky will offer the world for new customers but if you are loyal to them you don't get offered anything.
They also annoyed me when I wanted to add sports and asked if there were any offers. Got told there were none available but as I only wanted it for the last month of the footy season I could add the package and then phone up the day after to cancel within the 1 month notice period.
I did this and immeidately got offered 20% off my TV package if I kept the sports so instead of paying £20.25 a month for the sports I would only be paying about £8.
Have to say that as a company they are truly shocking for loyal customers so just cancel and get offered the world by signing up as a new customer.

With the latest revelations of "Hackinggate," how many of those, who have said they will change from Virgin to Sky, will actually do that now?

  • I have been with VM for 6 years or more and have got my monthly price down several times. I am nearly at the end of my contract. I have Line Rental, 24/7 phone, XL TV, M Broadband and pay £45.99 p.m. Is that a bargain or should I haggle ?

I think I've been ripped off...haven't paid attention to my breakdown of the bill for a long time and as I only have the bill online I just haven't checked that, so I've only seen the final price.
It's come to my attention now that I've been paying
    £12.99 for line rental
    £14 for TV size L
    £26 for BB size L
    £2.05 for caller ID

    With Virgin media. :(
Time to haggle or change I think.

Interesting stuff, thanks. Still in two minds though!

How much luck have people had negotiating with BT?

    At the moment i'm on-
Phone Line- Unlimited evening and weekend (and line rental)- £16.90
    Broadband- Total option 3- £25.60
    TV- BT Vision Bronze- £12.50

Having a look round, I can see similar packages from Talk Talk and sky for much cheaper!
