  • I cancelled at the end of March, 2 days later they called and offered 35% off. Said no and it finished at the end of April, in the meantime I'd bought a freesat Humax box which I used for a couple of months. Over the next 2 months I had 3 letters and 2 calls offering me 50% off which I ignored. I then had a call again offering me 50% off, said I wasn't interested, he then said he could offer me 60% off, I still wasn't interested then as a final attempt he offered me 60% off and a £50 credit on my bill with no 12 month contract. I felt this too good to turn down, so I've got the family pack with movies as I'm not interested in the sports for £19.20 a month which when you take the £50 credit into account it means I'm effectively paying £15 month for all that. It goes to show that you have to mean business and go without it for a while to show you mean business. I've already put a reminder in my phone for the end of May next year to cancel too and if they give me the same offer I'll take them up on it, if not I'll get my Humax box out of storage!

    Reading all these offers is quite annoying as Sky offered me nothing except 10% off when cancelled. Not being funny but could living in London Zone 1 have anything to do with this? They think I have more disposable cash and will return?

    Absolutely not geographical.
    As has been said over and over on this thread, you have to actually cancel (and mean it) to get the best deals. No point calling to simply ask for a discount, you are lucky being offered 10% doing that.

    Some people get offers on their My Sky within hours, others don't. I've been cancelled for over 2 months now and last time I looked still didn't have any offers on My Sky. However, I, like many others, have had flyers, phone calls and emails offering discounts since then.

    Give it 2/3 weeks and I'm pretty confident you will have had at least one of the above, if not all 3.

    I have cancelled. Sky went off 5 days ago. Got no offers during my 30 day cancellation period and had nothing since... No emails, flyers, calls. All my details are correct and opted in to marketing etc

    Are SKY adopting a tougher approach to haggling?

    I phoned them as my package - sport and movies - had gone up by £4 a month. I pointed out I have been a loyal customer and the young SKY guy said "yes 15 years". I told him that the price had kept going up over the years and was now too high. I also mentioned that I had BT Infinity 2 broadband and that they could provide the service that I needed and wanted to give me a quote. I said that I would prefer to stay with SKY if I could get a reasonable reduction.

    His only suggestion for a reduction in price was that I reduce my package. He said offers were being sent out to people in the post but he could do nothing.

    Are SKY adopting a tougher line or was I unlucky?

    I have the same situation as quite a few of the above, TV went off 2 days ago, so far nothing from them in regards to contact or offers, from my perspective they have until the weekend to offer something i find acceptable otherwise i will be starting my order with BT and so moving my line rental and fibre broadband away from sky as well as my TV having been canceled.

    and with quidco and the current sainsburys voucher offer, i would get 98% of what i want for less than £45 a month for the whole 18 months, which is only a tiny bit more than i am paying sky for just the line rental and fibre broadband
    Drop a brand challenge
    on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
    30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

    Hi all,

    thought id take to the forum to see if anyone has any particualr tips apart from "im going to leave" when i came to haglle for a new sky deal.

    Currently with sky contacts ends in 31st August, as i was a new customer i got the 50% off TV deal however with all the adds i still pay like £83 each month!

    Here is my breakdown:-

    Sky TV £27 (50% off) including sports
    HD pack £5.25
    Multiroom £11.25 + free sky go!!
    Line rental £14.99
    Talk anytime £5.00
    Fibre broadband £20.00

    Total = £83.49

    Im thinking of downgrading the Fiber to standard broadband which is free if you have sports! most annoying is to get HD sports you need to have the highest level TV Package otherwise you cant have it, a very cunning(or clever) ploy if you ask me as if your paying to have sports your going to want it in HD!!

    Ideally id like to get the same TV deal (50% off) or better, any tips or past experiences would be a great help.

    Should i call them to negotiate or wait for them to call me.

    Have you had the account a long time? Did you have Movies and Sport? Did you use Sky Store? Where you at any time a tardy payer or in arrears?
    If none of these apply to you (positively or negatively), then there is a strong likelihood that offers will be made available to entice your return in the near future.

    If you've only cancelled the TV aspect of your service then you have weakened your bargaining power as you remain a Sky customer. Not much point posting your "ultimatum" on an internet forum, by the way.:)

    Read back just a few pages of this thread and you'll get a taste of the "procedure" and what to expect.
    Might be an idea to also read the MSE advice article linked to this thread;

    Yeah I'd just go ahead and cancel everything and be ready to live without sky tv for a few days/weeks. 2 months ago sky were handing out free Phone line like candy to anyone who asked so I would try that first if you're willing to sign a new 12 month contract which is a no brainer if its free. You can get 1/2 price fiber for 12 months if you sign up for 18 with the new sky sports 5 deal but that should be sorted after you get at least 50% off sky TV for another 12 months.

    There is currently 1/2 price multi room offer available to pretty much everyone who doesn't have MR so cancel that for sure and just reup in a month at 1/2 the current cost. Theres a direct link to the MR offer on hotdeals if you just search for sky in the search function.
