Has anyone been able to get a recent sky fiber offer that lasted the duration of the contract? Sky force you to take out 18 month contracts now but only offered me 12 month 1/2 price.
  • mrscb....I have spoken to Sky via their online chat service and have never spoken to anyone who deals with cancellations and offers. They have just told me I would need to telephone them.

captain89....I would like to keep the phone and broadband...however, I'm thinking I should risk it and tell them I want to cancel all the services I have with them.

Going to phone them before the end of the week.

the devil made me do it,

Sky's webchat must now deal with cancellations because- per my post here - webchat is now in the tv terms & conditions as the only alternative option to telephone, to have cancellations processed immediately.

The post-cancellation mailshots I've received also offer both a telephone number and a website address to discuss/accept an offer via webchat; and there's also a webchat link that appears beside an offer (during opening hours) on my "My Sky" page.

These changes to cancellation processes/terms & conditions are recent.

When I cancelled back in April, I used live chat without a problem so it's definitely possible.

For the past couple of years I've been on the 75% off deal which is about to end, so I called today to cancel and was offered the full TV package for £38.85

The sky rep said the 75% off deals no longer exist.... can anybody confirm if this is true?
  • I do wonder how they decide who to target the 50% off banner on my sky. Our sky tv finished on Thursday (having had the 35% off call during the cancellation period) and I had a look over the weekend. Get the 'Unable to proceed' when I check my offers and on the my sky homepage it's an advert for their Broadband Shield - not a discount offer in sight.

I've obviously done something to upset them.

I never had it either, but within 2 weeks I had a flyer through the post, and since then I've more flyers and emails as well. I've also missed some calls on my landline when I've been at work, and Google suggests the number was a Sky one.

It won't be anything personal, just that they target marketing at people in different ways like a lot of businesses.

One question for you if you don't mind. Were you paying the advertised price or already on a discount? I hadn't had a discount since my first 12 months which was 6 years ago (laziness on my part) so my theory was that Sky thought I would probably crack quickly which is why I didn't start getting the 50% offers straight away. Is that the case for you?

Be careful when you play chicken with phonelines as there can be large reconnection fees if you let it go off. I managed to get my 1/2 price + £50 TV deal without having to cancel all 3. I just let the TV go off for a few days then called and said I had an offer in the mail.

Don't mind at all. We had been on a 50% discount - I just missed the correct time to cancel so ended up back on the full price for the last few days of the cancellation period.

I did mention to them both at cancellation and when they called that I'd bite at another 50% off for 12 months, but doubt that makes any difference.

If I get the mailshot then I'll give them a call, but till then I'll listen to the cricket on the radio and the kids will have to watch Cbeebies rather than Nickelodeon!

I have been paying £77 a month to Virgin Media for M+ TV (including Sky Sports and BT Sport), M phone and 100MB Broadband. Then on top of this I pay the annual line rental saver for £120, and I just had a letter through the door to tell me my Sky Sports costs will be going up by £2 per month. So in total per month it works out at £89.

I just called them up now, told him it was too expensive and asked if there were any deals. He said they could upgrade my TV deal to XL which includes BT Sport for free, and downgrade my internet from 100MB to 50MB (he checked my usage statistics and I don't come close to needing the 100MB speed), he said that would work out at £62.50 per month.

Still got the line rental on top of that, not sure whether I will still need to pay the £2 increase for Sky Sports but either way I'm looking at around a £15 per month saving for just a 10 minute call. I'm sure I could've got a better deal if I'd gone through with the whole cancellation thing but decided I don't really have the time or resolve to do that.

    Pretty satisfied anyway!
