I've called them and they are refusing to change my increase to the same as hers. How is this fair or legal?
Fairness and legality don't come into it, I'm afraid. In addition, it's impossible to comment about the comparison you make between the two billing amounts without much more information. You also have a completely different package to your Mother.

You have the option to cancel if you don't want to pay the increase.

How much is everyone else's being increased by?
The price increases for all packages are on detailed the back page of the letter you received.

Success. I received a call asking if there was any way they could keep me as a customer. I again stated that the cost was too high and, after a relatively short discussion, was offered 35% off. Still too high so was given 50% for 12 months with no contract.
    . :D

How long after you making the call to cancel did they call you back , and make the final offer ?

And congrats on the good school report !

Its might we worth skipping the waiting for the whole letters to land on the map part and just going to http://www.sky.com/comebacktosky and saying you have a 50% off letter to see if they actually cross check.
  • Thanks MSE for the broadband/phone advice, especially on haggling - it actually worked!
Was on Sky - line rental £15.40pm and B/Band £7.50pm and saw the current EE offer. Although the voucher offer sounded good, I was more interested in reducing my other costs, as I try to buy from alternatives to Amazon.
Rang Sky to cancel and explained why. After a few minutes of holding, they came back with £140 one-off line rental and free broadband. Total saving £134 for the year - almost halved.

Last year in June I gave my 31 days notice to cancel my tv package because of the cost and the fact that I had an old style Sky+ box so was unable to benefit from "on demand", etc. Two days after cancelling I received a call from retentions initially offering 10% discount which I declined. I was then offered 25% off my tv package for 12 months (which includes sports & movies) plus a free 2TB HD Sky+ box, which I was happy to accept.

This year I rang Sky again and gave 31 days notice to cancel the tv package. Three days after giving my notice I received a call from retentions and was offered a 35% reduction for 12 months which I politely declined. I was then offered 50% off the tv package for 12 months which I accepted. I am tied in for another 12 months but that doesn't bother me if I'm getting a 50% reduction on my package. I have been a Sky customer for 15 years. Hope this helps someone else get a decent discount.
  • Has anyone got the Sky retentions number? My current subscription is about to end & I have until 4th August to either cancel or stay with them. Been looking at other options and do feel a bit bamboozled.

Going to give them a ring to strike up a deal (if I can)

It's the usual customer services number available on their site or on the stb menu.

    Its not hard.

    1. Phone up and cancel.
    2. Wait for the phone calls. Accept offer if you like it.

    Or

    3. Say not interested on the phone, wait for the offers to hit the mat. Accept offer if you like it.

    Or

    4. Relalise you are not missing it so don't resubscribe saving the money.
  • Before I can even phone up and haggle, I need to look at the different options out there.

The deal I got from Sky when I first moved over to them was brilliant. They wanted my custom from O2 broadband, so I got Sky talk, tv and unlimited broadband for £21 per month. I wouldn't mind staying with this deal, but I hardly doubt that will happen.

So I may well end up with freeview using my sky box and either stick with Sky for broadband and telephone.
