We joined Sky as new customers this time last year, so our current deal is due to expire. We have only been paying £37.40 per month for the Entertainment Extra Plus package, Broadband, Phone Line and Sky Sports package (£15.40 line rental and £22 Sky Sports...everything else was free !!). We got a letter last week saying that they would give us the TV package at half price (£16.50 per month instead of £33 per month), but we would also have to pay £7.50 for Broadband taking our monthly bill to £61.40. I phoned them last night to say I wasn't happy, and without having to try too hard got them down to £44 per month including Sky Sports 5 when it goes live. Happy Days

Sky customer for over 8 years and bill getting just shy of £100 per month prior to the announced price increase. Had HD, multi room, fibre broadband (never use home phone) all channels except the sports.

Phoned to cancel citing too expensive and router is naff. Not gigabit, not dual band, slow, dropouts. First tried to get me to buy their new router (which is still naff) and offered me £5 off my multi room for 3 months. Big whoop.

Said I'd like to cancel and got offered the new router free, nothing else. Kept on the phone for over an hour. I've now cancelled and on BT Infinity 2 which is a massive improvement so quite pleased with that. TV due to go off in a few days but no offers as yet?!?

    Is it just me?

No, it's not just you. Sky don't have set timeframes in which they dole out offers. There's a system to it but it isn't as simple as cancel and get X% off for Y many months. Sometimes it's just a game of chicken to see who gives in first.

The long time subscribers, in particular, who have never really queried their bills, Sky often assume are just trying it on so will let their subs lapse and probably only start with some offers after several weeks, trying to see whether they just resub at the last minute or shortly after their TV gets switched off. I'm sure that happens. I've seen previous threads on forums before where people say that they're on day 29 of their notice period and they'll be calling up to keep everything. Some people just try it on and have no intention of quitting.

I also have a suspicion that the reason they ask if there are other people in the house who watch Sky is because there's a chance the other party might nag the canceller into keeping Sky. I know my wife's not gonna like Sky Atlantic getting switched off. :rotfl:

I've been a subscriber for thirteen years myself but recently cancelled all my TV services due to some billing issues I was experiencing and an extremely rude customer service rep. I've had some special offers before, although nothing quite as extravagant as the 50% or 75% off offers some people have had but the ball is in their court now. I'd like to carry on watching Sky for the sports, entertainment and documentary channels but I ain't gonna blink - especially not after how rude the rep I dealt with was. I have a library of half played or unplayed games on Steam that I can while away some free time on. I'll miss Sky if they don't make an offer but there's other stuff I can be doing. I guess we shall see if and when Sky blink. :rotfl:

Thought i was doing well, they offered me another year at 75% off was paying £24.50 for everything , the chap said it would now be £25.30 which i though was because of the recent price rise and asked several times if it was exactly the same package and was told yes , looked at my account a few minutes after and they had took off the HD package and upped it to £38 , rang back immediately and told a manager would look into the call and call me back in 72hours, 72 hours are now up and no call.

Any advice on how i can take it higher ?

You could make a complaint if you feel you were misinformed or lied to?

Have you been cut off yet? The majority of people only get the decent (50% off) offers after they have been cut off, in some peoples case just a few hours later.

I take it you got a decent deal with Virgin though, and hope you didn't forget to do TCB/Quidco as well!
  • managed to get half price after cancelling last month so full sky package with movies, sports and hd for £35 a month for a year. However have just had a letter saying with the price increases it will be going up by £4 a month, anyone else had this and challenged it?

It's in the offer terms of the mailshots I've received- "Prices may go up during your subscription".

Any element of a package that is discounted to 50% should be charged at 50% of the standard price throughout the offer period, however.

I've not seen a price increase letter, but believe that some people have been confused because the letters quote the increase to the standard price?
