Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

Hi guys,
New on the board so first post...! I hope you can help.
I'm moving home soon - one months from now - and had a few questions.
I currently have BT Infinity with 6 months left on 18 month contract. No FO where I'm going so can I cancel that contract? Line rental plus Infinity is c£34 pm.
I have had Sky for over 4 years. Full package including HD minus Movies £60 pm.
Am I free to get anyone to supply LR BB and TV with no cancellation charges? If so could I haggle with Sky by offering to get it all with them? What are they likely to offer me?
Thanks

Sky will be happy to provide all services.0 -
I am currently paying Virgin for their basic bundle for Broadband and TV M+ plus a phone line rental with Talk Weekends. I also have a good mobile SIM only deal so try to use the mobile during the week to avoid land line phone charges. I don't want to upgrade my TV or broadband packages as I am not a heavy user and don't need most channels. I just wanted to get a better router and a Tivo to replace my V box.
I currently pay £29.90 for the BB and TV and £15.99 for the phone line rental plus phone call charges. They will only give me the above for much the same as I am paying now.
Has anyone else got the offer for new customers by threatening to quit? I don't want to try that as I wouldn't be convincing! I don't actually want to go to Sky or BT. All at least as bad as each other.0 -
I got a deal by facebooking them
We have HD (not bothered about Tivo), 50 meg broadband and M+ TV, plus talk weekends and line rental. All for £29.50 per month and intending to have a word with them soon to see what can be done. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

So who made this FB offer to you? I suspect that I may have spoken to an Indian representative. Accent strong and line poor. Couldn't hear her properly. Came away frustrated. Surely they must know that apparent threats to cancel are often not genuine ?0 -
FYI Just called the above number. Was totally honest about what I wanted (lower price as my deal had ended!), was offered -
1. Free multi room Sky+ HD box (normally £49), Free installation (normally £60) with multi room at £5.25 per month for 12 months (normally £11.25) and Sky Go Extra Free for a month.
That box isn't Sky+ btw. Sky+HD box is £199 if you have one already.0 -
I have currently had my Sky TV cut off for around 2 weeks (had 1 call during the cancellation period and was offered 35% which i declined).
Spoke to online chat last night and was offered 50% off with £50 credit on the following TV package with a 12 month contract:
Family Package
Sports Package
Full HD Pack
I do have my phone line and broadband with Sky also. The best they could offer me on this was the free broadband for 24months deal.
Im not to keen on getting locked into a broadband contract for 18 months (and if i cancel Sky sports after 12 months i will begin to be charged £7.50 a month).
Has anyone managed to get a deal on the phone line alone? i was told there were none when i asked.
The current EE deal is very tempting. What are peoples experience with EE on the Broadband and Phone line package???
Sky cannot charge an ETC for a free product! you will just be paying 6 months of £3.75 per month for line rental, they can only charge their profit margin.0 -
I need to renegotiate my Virgin deal, I have happily had Sky TV for years, I can't even remember where the old Telewest TV box got slung, years ago they gave me a running discount equal to the TV part of the package so I didn't do anything about it and forgot TV was still there in the packagel, over the years the discount has gone missing somehow.
Looking at the the bill recently I have been committing the MSE cardinal sin of not keeping on top of direct debit bills. I only want the 20MB broadband and basic line rental with caller id (virtually never us the landline) which it seems is £33 for new customers (after discount period) and a lot less than I am being charged currently.
When is the best time to try calling them to get a sensible person with the power to change my contract? week days? office hours? or does it not matter. Should I just start with the regular customer service number or do an online chat?
I know they will try to flog me more TV but its not happening.
Thanks.0 -

That is essentially what I asked for but was told that it was only available to new customers.0
