I've not seen a price increase letter, but believe that some people have been confused because the letters quote the increase to the standard price?
"Dear Mr Moneyineptitude, from 1st September your bill will increase by £4.00 a month."
The letter very cleverly avoids stating what the old total amount was and what the new total amount will be.0 -
I was getting the impression from some posts, that the confusion was, for example, that customers on deals had a letter stating that their package was increasing by £4 per month, but didn't realise that they'd only pay £2 per month extra during the course of a 50% deal?0

Well, my Sky phone, internet and TV went off yesterday at around 8am. I logged into mysky account around a hour or so later and the 50% offer for 12 months off Sky TV was there.
Nice! I just need to do an online chat or call up to discuss so will that today or tomorrow.
I'm just wondering whether the 50% will be off everything TV related. I currently have Sports, HD and the original package.....? Do you think there would be any scope to get it onto a rolling 30-day contract or would it have to be another 12 months?0 -
Well after receiving the letter from sky yesterday telling me that my bill was going up by £1.25 I decided to look into alternatives.
I pay in total £59 to sky each month for TV, Phone (which we don't use!) and fibre broadband.
I can get the same type of package with TalkTalk for £30 for the first 6 months and then £44 after that.
I called sky to discuss and got through to retentions and all I got offered was 35% of TV for a year and half price fibre for 6 months.
So for 6 months it would be £41 a month and then after that it would be £51. Not really any of these great savings that everyone has been talking about here.
I've been with them for 5 years (as she told me!). I told her what I could get from Talk Talk and she just told me to 'look at the reviews for TT'.
Anyway I left it that I would think about it and she is going to call me back on Monday. In the meantime I will do some more research!
Edit: I've also looked at BT and can get similar for £40 a month after promotional period. Think I'm going to call their bluff and cancel when she calls Monday and see what happens.0 -

The 50% off is usually just TV based but you can call and get offers on the phone and BB if they're willing to play ball. Usually when u reconnect its on a 31 day rolling contract unless you take the HD/Family pack which force a 12 month contract.0 -
I think in a (good) way, MSE have caused the current problem with Sky and cancellations.
It used to be that if you called up and said you want to cancel, they would offer you a discount without you ever having to put your notice in. MSE highlighted this in newsletters and suddenly thousands of people were ringing up to "cancel" hoping to get the discounts....
All of a sudden Sky stopped making offers at that point and allowing people to put their cancellation notice in. Offers only started to be made on call backs before the notice period ended so everyone started doing that, so then Sky stopped making offers in the notice period at all and many people cancelled the cancellation before they lost their Sky services because they couldn't live without their sky....
Now Sky only seem to make offers to people who have gone through with their cancellation - most people never get that far before giving in.A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A
If you find my posts useful, "pay it forward" and help someone else out, that's how places like MSE can be so successful.0 -

Anyone who has a % dicount on their account will not be paying the totals stated on the letter. If you have 50% off and the letter says your bill will be going up by £4 then your bill will be going up by £2 after the discount is applied to the new package totals.0 -
.... I've now cancelled and on BT Infinity 2 which is a massive improvement so quite pleased with that. TV due to go off in a few days but no offers as yet?!?
Having the telephone line/broadband/fibre in a minimum term with Sky gives Sky the additional advantage that they then know you can’t take Talk Talk or BT's tv service!
I've subsequently cancelled Sky TV and subscribe (in addition to BT Unlimited Infinity 2) to the BT Youview "Extra Channels" package (£7 per month), HD Bolt-on (£3) & BT Sport (included)= £10 per month.
I know that Sky's tv platform is the best available, but having alternatives available makes me less inclined to return to Sky unless the price and conditions suit.0 -
I got a letter from Sky saying it was increasing my monthly charge for the family bundle by £1.50 per month!
My mum got a letter saying they were increasing her monthly charge for the family bundle by £1.00 per month!
I also get phone and broadband from Sky, where as she doesn't, so I am a more valuable customer.
I've called them and they are refusing to change my increase to the same as hers. How is this fair or legal?
How much is everyone else's being increased by?0 -
