Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

Quite a few of the posts on this forum suggest the stay with Sky call is received after the 30 day period.
I called Sky today to cancel my TV, BB and Line rental and was advised that on the 02/08/14 my phoneline would deactivate and he advised me to make sure my Virgin phoneline was in place the day before to ensure I wouldn't be charged the £100+ re-activation fee.
The folks on here who received the call after the 30 day period, did you encounter any problems of reactivation fees?0 -

Oh, I wonder why he said that then0

Went to cancel via the Cancellation online chat facility. I've been offered my same package for £13.50/month instead of £23.50/month but I need to go into a new 12 month contract.
I've been given some thinking time to ponder it as I am weary that the price will go up in September (although I've been told by no more than £1). Anyone think this is the best I will get out of them? I tried to not enter a new contract but they wouldn't have it.
I can still cancel if I want to and they will honour todays date as my notice of cancellation.
Very good deal here. I was on the 50% off introductory offer. Went online this morning to cancel and was only offered 10% off. Subsequently cancelled to hopefully wait for a retention callback / offer.
I don't want to lose my services but it is simply too expensive. Are people likely to get another 50% off for the year after cancelling? Otherwise I should start to look to Virgin.0 -
sky TV got cut off yesterday.
Had 1 phone call during my 30 day notice offering 35% off, which i rejected.
Checked my sky login screen this morning hoping for a 50% off note like some people have received. No luck unfortunately.
How long do people usually wait for a call or email offering a deal once Sky TV has beencut OFF???0 -
You will probably get one of those old fashioned letter things landing on the mat in a couple of weeks.0

So the price rises are confirmed then.... Mine is due to go up £4 a month. Dis anyone know if I'm on a 50% deal, does the discount apply to the increase too?A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A
If you find my posts useful, "pay it forward" and help someone else out, that's how places like MSE can be so successful.0 -
I currently pay £58 for Original, Sports, HD, Internet and Phone.
I cancelled 10 days ago and within 3 days, I had a phone call offering me the services for £68 but without HD. I refused and maintained the cancellation. Had another 2 days later which offered everything (including the HD) for £58 a month, I refused again.
My reason is purely financial, I'm saving for a house and will go through with the cancellation if necessary but I'm interested to see what is offered to tempt me to stay.
However, strangely, they called again on Wednesday night and asked me why i'm cancelling my phone and internet (no mention of TV), being this is the 3rd time that they have called now and each tiem they've asked me why I'm cancelling. I explained financial reasons, housesaving etc etc but the CSR's response was simply 'Ok, that's fine, I'll make a note so that we don't contact you anymore'
I thought that was a bit strange as there was no offer made and also, there was no mention of TV in the question either...
Can anyone shed any light? Is that the end of the negotiations as it were.....?0 -

Within 10 mins got "Come back to Sky and get an exclusive 50% off Sky TV for 12 months" message when I logged in.
Previously rejected 2x 35% discount offers whilst serving notice.
Actually going on holiday for 2 weeks - So I'll leave them to sweat before I make up my mind.
Might take them up on their 50% offer but would quite like a credit too!
Connected with through Live Chat today & was initially offered 50% off.
Asked if this was their best offer as I was tempted by Virgin's deals.
They then upped their offer to 60% off.
I went for the Variety Package @ £10.80 (goes up a few pence in Sept) - for 12 months.
I think I was missing the full use of the Sky+ the most though.0
