Depends on what package you're on. If you follow through and cancel most people recieve 50% offers during or just after the 30 day period. On an absolute scale free bb and £10 LR is around average based on what was out there.

I am on basic Sky TV and unlimited BB. If I follow through and cancel, do you think I might get 50% of Sky TV in addition to free BB and £10 Line Rental?

Alternatively, is it worth asking if Sky are prepared to include extra channels for the same price - i.e. could I get Sky Sports or Sky Movies for free?
  • Hi All,

I'd like some advice please. A couple of weeks ago I rang sky to cancel an engineer appt to fix my dish as they stated 2 weeks, and I found a local guy who did it the same day cheaper.

Anyway, whilst on the call the guy tried to sign me up to £10 off broadband if I entered into a 2 year contract for Sky Sports, which I declined as I've been tempted to cancel many services recently so I didn't want to be tied in.

Next thing I know, a week and a half later I have a letter in the post telling me my bills are increasing because I've upgraded from HD Basic to HD Pack.

Now I didn't even have a conversation about what this is let alone agree to it. So what should I do? So far I rang them but to complain but was told that department was closed (8:20pm when I called) and they couldn't organise a call back, which just angered me further:mad:.

So how should I play this? I'd be very happy to cancel if I had any alternatives set up and lots of programmes recorded. I use Sky for Phone, TV and Broadband paying £97.50 a month. If I could get a massive discount for a period I'd be tempted to stay for 6 months and then cancel the lot when I'm better prepared.

Also is what they've done against their regulations, should I report this to someone? Should I use it as a negotiation angle;)?

    Many thanks in advance,

    James

Odds are they will offer 50% after trying their hand at 25 or 35% as they will be losing money by just letting you walk. If you find the right CS dude you can get some crazy offers from sky. Quite a few on here had 75% off or even free for 6 months and no contract... I'm currently on Free Line rental, Free BB with 50% off sky TV +£50 bill credit and 2tb box for £49. My monthly is around £28 for Family + sports but I actually let my sky go off for a few days before getting this deal.

Sky have offered free channels in the past but that was when I was paying full price and was only for periods for 3 months. I doubt they will give you a combo of the 2 e.g 25% off + free sports as that would bring your bill way under 25% off. The best deals come when you go through with it but sometimes they will let you walk. In that case you can just call and have it put back on at whatever offer they give you if you reallllllly need sky.

You normally have a 14 day cooling off period so you can have them cancel this order. I'd try to use it to get a better deal from them(you have been wronged imo) and play the polite but outraged card. £97 a month for sky seems outrageous even with phone and BB. Its been so long since I paid full price I forgot how ugly it can get when you bundle everything together.

Send them a letter of complaint and tell them you did not agree to any upgrade during the call. Tell them you want any such upgrade removed immediately and your bill amended accordingly.

No point "reporting" them to the regulator unless you can provide solid documentary evidence that HD was added without your permission.

As for cancellation, if you are out of the original 12 month minimum term you can cancel at will by giving a month's notice. If you read a few random pages of this thread you'll see that cancelling will result in Sky offering you a decent discount to tempt you into staying.

I've just been offered this deal. Been on a 50% off package for 12 months. Currently paying £12/month instead of £23.50 for Sky TV only. Went to cancel via the Cancellation online chat facility. I've been offered my same package for £13.50/month instead of £23.50/month but I need to go into a new 12 month contract.

I've been given some thinking time to ponder it as I am weary that the price will go up in September (although I've been told by no more than £1). Anyone think this is the best I will get out of them? I tried to not enter a new contract but they wouldn't have it.

I can still cancel if I want to and they will honour todays date as my notice of cancellation.

Hi Captain89. I have just called Sky back, and asked them tomake me a better offer.

They said that their current offer of £30 for basic Sky TV,BB and Line Rental is already an ‘excellent’ offer, and therefore, declined tooffer me further discount.

I gave notice to cancel both Sky TV and BB, but told them tofeel free to give me a call back if they’d like to make a better offer.

Thank you for all your advice so far – really appreciate it.

I wouldn't worry about as the offers will come after you have proved you will cancel.

    Don't lose your nerve now!

Sky TV due to go off at the weekend, no calls from Sky on mobile. Was offered 10%, 15% or 20% (iirc) on the phone for varying number of months but declined.

OH is not too happy at the thought of losing the SKY sports for a number of days given the number of sports on at present!
    Regards, Robin.
