Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

Hi,I'm going to be cancelling Sky this week.
I currently have TV, Broadband and a Phone line with them. If they can't offer a discount I'll give my notice.
So please can sometime tell me if I have to give my notice for all at the same time? Do I ask for my MAC on the phone or do they send it to me.
I've seen many postings about discounts on TV packages, but you think it likely they will eventually offer me a discount on Broadband/Line Rental too?
Many thanks!0 -

see my post on page 293 for the exact process of my negotiations
you'll most likely get the Broadband/Line Rental offers first. I ended up getting both free for 12 months thanks to a convenient order of events that you may wish to try and repeat...
Call to give notice on your full package, TV, Broadband and phone. They may offer you 10% off but little else probably. Just say you are happy to go to freeview and you can satisfy your internet needs via your mobile phone.
Call again the next day and say you have seen a good broadband offer somewhere (do your research first don't just make it up) and can you have a MAC code...they'll likely say that they cant give you a MAC code now because your account is in notice of cancellation but they will try and match the offer. If you're happy with the offer accept it and leave the tv cancelled. At this stage they offered me free broadband and a £1.40 pm line rental discount which I accepted. I was perhaps fortunate then to receive an email a day later (which had obviously been triggered by my cancellation) offering me free Line rental...I called again and they added that to my account too...not saying it will work exactly the same for you but may be worth trying.
The common trend seems to be that the broadband is up for negotiation straight away, the tv deals you really need to be cut off first.0 -
thought i would share my experience. as like everyone else on this thread, spoke to Sky today as my minimum term ended and told them i saw a wonderful offer by virgin on their TV package only deal and that what could sky do to beat them.
sky rep gave me alot nonsense about how virgin are only a re seller of sky content and blah blah, to which i clearly stated i was not interested on who gave me content but who gave the content at the cheapest price. sky rep then stated i already had a discount on my account (this discount was because they screwed up my package when i first to it last year) so even though my minimum term ended they could not offer me discount until next week when this offer had left my account. i know this pure BS but i will play the game and wait until next week to see what they can offer and if not, Virgin here i come
if anyone is interested.
current sky TV only Package is family bundle £32 per month (-10.75 offer)
Virgin offer - TV M+ package (tv package only) - £19 + 7.95 for extra channels (have not told sky this as i do not think that they need to know that)
anyone think i can get sky to come down to £19 on TV pack with them?0 -

As ever, you'll have to go through with the whole cancellation in order to get the best possible deal.0 -
I've just called Sky and spoke to cancellations about switching to talk talk. I am also looking to downgrade my package. The best they offered at this point is free broadband for 24 months (£7.50 per month / £90 per year).
PaulJune 2016 - Pair of Brooks Glycerin 14's
July 2016 - Annual family pass to English Heritage
August 2016 - overnight spa break with dinner and breakfast for two
September - BBQ toolbox0 -

Thanks, yes i told the rep its not exactly a like 4 like but they have all the channels i need except one or two (Disney channels for my little girls) which is not a deal breaker as my darlings are spending time on their tablets more than TV.0 -
We were offered 35% off and a new box which we took. It'll be intriguing to see what Sky do next year with retentions when they lose the Champions League rights.0

I've been avoiding calling my TV/broadband/phone provider for some time as I am terrible at haggling and didn't want to end up with another expensive contract. I set myself a maximum value on what I was prepared to pay monthly and gave them a call.
Determination and being really nice, sticking to my guns resulted in a refund of £77.88 and a monthly price tag at 20% less than I pay now. I've saved myself £222 a year! Thank you Virgin Media, I'm very happy to stay with you.0 -
Got a very weird situation where when I log on following the ceasing of all my services, the Sky site tells me to ring them for offers. I don't want to do this because it suggests I'm missing Sky but will I get a decent offer if I ring them or is it worth holding out and seeing what comes by post.0
