For anyone thinking of switching from Sky..

I managed to get a fair deal from Virgin on the Big Kahuna Package, I won't go for the movies I used to have on Sky but use on demand stuff, Netflix or Amazon Prime etc this cuts my cost form Sky of £86 down to £60 with Virgin and their much faster 152mb BB.

I got my brother to recommend me so he gets £50 credit, I also signed up online via Quidco so get £76cash back. I then negotiated a discount of £35 on a 1TB box, also £50 credit on my bill (as per on MSE web page) plus I shall pay upfront for the phone bill to bring line rental down to £12 a month saving another £47..

All in all am really happy with that and glad I left Sky, my brother has shared his Amazon Prime account with me so that might not cost anything , so far it seems better than Netflix!
Thanks god for MSE and tips from others..

either the refer a friend or quidco will be declined
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • Just off the phone from Sky. Got a 50% discount on TV last July, so called to see if I could get the same for another 12 months. Was offered 25% as long as I took the 18 month contract for the free broadband / £15.40 a month line rental which I wasn't going to go with due to the sorts of offers mentioned in this thread for landline / broadband.

Cancellation processed and due to switch off on 24th July - will update the thread as and when I hear from them again.

As was mentioned earlier the rep I spoke to made a point of saying they don't do the retention callbacks any more. We shall see.

I am considering joining Sky since BT are changing the old BT Vision boxes over so I have to do something soon. Sky have offered the following, what does anyone think?

Family package @£31.40 for first 6 months then £47.40 for 6 months, £25 set up fee and line rental of £15.40 per month + free broadband, and £125 voucher (Tesco/M&S). Adding the £6.99 for delivery of the router, this adds up to £378.00 for a year. There are of course price rises due in September unless I can lock it in, and after a year I'd have to renegotiate or leave anyway.

In comparison BT are offering £34.64 per month for BT TV with the film/box sets options, and a free YouView box. This is £415.68 for a year and is less likely to go up a lot after year 1 but of course has less channels, especially SkyLiving and Atlantic which I would watch. (Virgin not in my area so not an option)
    Mortgage September 2014 £229,372 (Fixed for 2 years to Sept 2016 @ 2.49% = £1310 per month)
    Term: 18 years
Planned overpayments: £400 pcm to start with, and lump sums whenever possible.
Aim: to be mortgage free in 12 year
    s:)

    It's really up to you.
There is no point in "guessing" which provider is more likely to put prices up next year.
Sky's is the cheaper deal for THIS year and has the most choice of channels. In a year, you can leave and go to a cheaper provider (if there is one).

Those are not good deals imo. £32 is the standard price of the family pack so I have no idea how they can quote you £47.60 after 6 months unless you got a quote for a higher package like sports or movies?

If you go on hotdeals and search for sky deals you'll find a quidco offer which allows you to get the family bundle for £8.07 pm. Once thats setup I would actually call sky and see what they can offer you with your BB and PL. Free BB is almost standard when switching over when you have sky TV but often times you can get a discount on the line rental also depending on who you speak too. GL.

    They're lying.
We cancelled 2 weeks ago and we were then called every day.
Now have 50% off the full package for another year (but 33% off the HD)

The chap even told me to call back in 11.5 months for another deal!

    Sit tight

We are nearing the end of the cancellation period and the only thing we have had is a leaflet through the post offering 50% off the family package for 6 months.

Am I right in thinking that any deals for coming back to Sky will be on the offers page after we log on?

If I return to Sky without an offer, am I right in assuming it will be another 12 months contract?

Not if you cancel the cancellation. :)
  • philgods - I figured that may be the case. As I told them on the cancellation call if I get 50% off that is what I'd be willing to pay, so if I get that offer I'll bite. If I get nothing I'll survive without. Guess it's just part of the cat and mouse game they need to play.

We were told that also. If you don't mind me asking are you in a Virgin Cabled area?
