I got my confirmation letter in the post today, telling me that my Sky cancellation date is 17th July. How soon do Sky usually wait before contacting people with offers to keep them?0

When I rang to cancel they kept mentioning that I had been a customer for 8 years without being prompted by me. Also I am keeping the broadband and phone with them for now.
Perhaps you are being too obvious that you are out for a discount as your previous message indicates that you asked for a specific discount which is no longer available.0 -

I really like it. Loads of catch-up TV I can watch when I like, BBC iPlayer, 4OD etc. Many services have no adverts. (I also have DVD by post rental service.)
So I cancelled my Sky. I have an 8 year old white box, no special features, they were charging £25.50 a month. I noticed that you can have a Sky+ box with catch-up TV for £27 per month, so lots of extras for just £1.50 a month extra. The basic white box service has been going up every year and is poor value for money now. They just rely on people's inertia in not changing, it's only worth £15 a month, £20 a month at the most in my opinion now.
When I cancelled they said they might be able to do a deal but I said I bet you can't go down to £5 a month like NOW TV and she said "no". Now I am getting marketing calls from Sky every day, I haven't actually answered one yet...
Quite a few in the past have said they got 75% off which would bring down the basic package to just over £5 a month. I haven't seen anyone say they got it recently but 2 months ago sky were handing it out like candy. Maybe see what they can offer next time they ring.0 -

I think that NOW TV will go up in price and/or adverts will be introduced because it seems a bit too good to be true right now. Sky seem to be undermining their own business model (NOW TV is run by Sky).0 -

I agree, how long before they ruin it. I've gave my 30 days notice on Sky in hope that they will make me a good offer. But we already have Nowtv for the movies, so we have it set up in the bedroom, living room and on both our phones. As much as I love Sky at the minute in thinking it wouldn't be end of the world if we added the entertainment package for Nowtv and go off that for a while, especially through the summer. The good thing is that because its not contracted for months on end if they change the service I can just leave.
Plus I'm pretty I've heard that Nowtv offer discounts if you try to cancel your subscription and say you cant afford the service any more - worth a try.0 -
I tried cancelling sky yesterday and as usual they took my cancellation. I never seem to get offers! I will just wait and see now if any offers come my way. With the increase in September I felt it wasn't value for moneytravelover0

For anyone thinking of switching from Sky..
I managed to get a fair deal from Virgin on the Big Kahuna Package, I won't go for the movies I used to have on Sky but use on demand stuff, Netflix or Amazon Prime etc this cuts my cost form Sky of £86 down to £60 with Virgin and their much faster 152mb BB.
I got my brother to recommend me so he gets £50 credit, I also signed up online via Quidco so get £76cash back. I then negotiated a discount of £35 on a 1TB box, also £50 credit on my bill (as per on MSE web page) plus I shall pay upfront for the phone bill to bring line rental down to £12 a month saving another £47..

All in all am really happy with that and glad I left Sky, my brother has shared his Amazon Prime account with me so that might not cost anything , so far it seems better than Netflix!
Thanks god for MSE and tips from others..0 -
Due to be cut off at 00.00 21/06 - Actually cut off approx. 8.00 today.
Within 10 mins got "Come back to Sky and get an exclusive 50% off Sky TV for 12 months" message when I logged in.
Previously rejected 2x 35% discount offers whilst serving notice.
Actually going on holiday for 2 weeks - So I'll leave them to sweat before I make up my mind.
Might take them up on their 50% offer but would quite like a credit too!0 -

Been with Sky 11 months now. Rang to cancelled and it was offered and accepted cheerfully. I have opted to get the Now TV entertainment 6 month pass for £35. It has all the channels I watch. There is no point in me spending £34 a month for the Family Pack.0
