Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

Exactly the same as me. Mine went off 3 weeks ago and I had the same letter yesterday. I also received an email about it today.
Just like you, I've not really missed it so am quite happy to carry on without if it's not a deal to suit me.
As Sky Sports customers (which I was) will soon be able to get 2 years free broadband, I may give them a call at some point to see if they can offer a discount on the fibre instead!
The 2 years free on ADSL is mirrored with 12 months fibre @ £10 per month.0 -
I do understand that's the conversation they get all day, but to be honest Sky have always had polite customer service when I had spoke to them before, I think it was more to do with being late in the day and being hot weather.
My point about the offers was in the space of 30 mins I was given 2 different prices, both more than the week before. I also have the 50% off letter but Sky told me that doesn't come with all the channels! So then I knew they weren't going to give me anything but BS, being with them for 15 years meant nothing to them, but the fact I'm more likely to accept a high offer. One of the reps did tell me it's better when their budget is nearing the end of the month so I know they alternate offers.
That's fine I had a 12 month half price last year, I can't complain, and after using freesat realized how little I really need Sky, now Virgin have removed their traffic shaping am looking forward to HS internetoh and for your information Virgin have chased me with offers already, a bigger TiVo box and mobile deals! I also got my brother to recommend me so he gets £50 , I get free install, I also signed up through quidco so get £76 cash back! so not bad, only killer is 18 month contract..

I’m one of the O2 broadband customers who transferred to Sky last year with free tv (Family bundle) and free broadband. My tv deal is up at the end of this month so I gave Sky the cancellation call a few weeks back and they offered me the same tv, phone and broadband that I’m on now for £47 including line rental. I’m working to a tight budget so that’s about £12 or so more than I can afford so I politely declined the offer.
About 5 days later I got the call from Outbound but as it wasn’t convenient I asked them to call me back later on that day but they didn’t. On Sunday I contacted Sky via webchat as TalkTalk had made me a good offer. Sky said I was eligible for 50% off tv taking that down to £16 and on several occasions were insistent that they wanted to activate the deal on my account. As my phone and broadband deal isn’t up until early July (and I’d paid line rental up front last year) I wanted to know what the price was for everything. Sky’s agent came back with the price of £21 which really was too good to be true and it fact wasn’t true! The £21 was only until my current deal ends but as my tv deal hasn’t ended yet why would I agree to it? The agent said she couldn’t give me a price for phone, line rental and broadband as my current deal wasn’t up yet so she insisted that I sign up for the tv offer and then call them back in July. I again advised the agent not to activate anything as why would I sign up without knowing what the price is for the other services and if it’s higher than the TalkTalk price I’m stuck with a 12 month tv contract. I felt I was being tricked and said as much to the agent. She cut me off! I wasn’t happy!!
2 hours later I got the Outbound call back and they said the best they could offer me would be 35% off and if I wanted it I had to accept it today. I declined and couldn’t be bothered to tell them about the 50% offer as I was sick of the lies. This agent didn’t believe me when I told him what the TalkTalk price was.
I complained via email the next day and received a half-hearted apology from Sky who said: “As a company which very much values its customers, we invest considerable resources in staff training and monitoring procedures to maintain the quality of our customer service. All our staff are fully aware of their responsibility to be courteous and helpful in dealing with any customer. Conduct of the sort you describe is clearly not acceptable”.
“I’m grateful that you’ve brought your experiences to my attention and assure you that they will be used to help address the areas requiring improvement”.
“I have checked your account and see that Sky TV is pending cancel on your account on 29/05/2014. I do not see any record offering you 50% or 35% discount on your Sky account. In fact you called Sky on 29/05/2014 to cancel your Sky account”.
So they implied I was being dishonest! Sort of contradicts the first paragraph of their reply. I’ve replied to their email and we’ll see what they come back with.
I don’t expect any further offers from them which is a shame as reading this forum some people appear to be getting the kind of offers that would suit my budget. Only really want to keep Sky for my kids as they’ve loved having the kids channels but other than that I’ve only really watched Sky 1, Sky Sports News and some of the on demand box sets. If I move to TalkTalk I can get Sky 1, Sky Sports News and subscribe to the kids channels. Shame really as the service from Sky has been excellent, zero broadband problems but the customer service of last weekend really left a bad taste.0 -
My 12month contract with Sky will soon expire. I am hoping to get some discounts so plan to give Sky a call to place the cancellation.
My question is:
should I cancel the SkyTV only or TV+BB+Line?
My only concern is if I cancel the BB+Line, if I have to leave Sky at the end, will I lose internet connection for 1-2 weeks before the next provider activates my line and BB?
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.0 -

I was in your position .I phoned Sky and they offered me 1/2 price on the family package ,I said no I wanted to cancel and I would be looking for an alternative to the BB and line rental .They offered me free BB for 12 months which I accepted ,they offered me 1/2 price TV which I didnt accept and the cancellation is going ahead .I missed a few calls from sky but the TV package goes off next week ."Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0 -
I currently pay £56 per month for Sky Family pack and HD, landline and anytime broadband. Customer for 3 years.
I would like fibre if possible but really don't want to pay any more. Current broadband speed of 10mbs.
They offered me £40 per month for the same deal I have now or £48 per month with 38meg Fibre increasing to £60 after 6 months.
IS there much scope for any improvements on this deal? They wouldn't budge on live chat when I asked.
Tempted by Virgin Big Kahuna deal which gives me all I really want on TV, although I would miss Sky Atlantic, much better broadband and BT sport which is a bonus.0 -

Is that free BB or free line rental? I got that offer a week ago too (line rental only), and when I rang to find out how much the BB was, because I wasn't renewing my TV package, I was told it is £10 a month.
EE is offering BB for £2 a month plus 12 mths line rental up front at £132. This totals £156 but they are also giving away a £100 Amazon voucher which takes the cost down to less than £5 a month. I told Sky I could get that deal and they didn't offer to match it so I'll be moving to EE later this month.0 -
Came to the end of our initial 12 month half price offer so gave 30 days notice on Monday; just had a call from another department offering continuation of 12 month deal with all channels (inc sports and movies) for half price!0

You can get £131 cashback at topcashback, which makes the line rental virtually free. £2.50 pcm for BB if you are an EE (Inc T & Orange) mobile customer.0
