The lovely man from Sky called me back the next day and offered me 50% off the TV package with a New HD box. The only thing that they asked was that we had to take out a 12 month HD subscription, but that was half price too. So in all new box and about 45% cheaper than current. I would say that it was a good days work!

Called Sky on 3rd June to give notice. Was offered some discounts like 10% off for 12 months, 20% for 3 months etc. Was on 9 months for 20% discount though and I declined. only TV with Sky, nothing else.

Got a letter today confirming the date the service will be stopped. Hoping to have a call at some stage in the future.
    Regards, Robin.

I was struggling to pay the 61 quid a month for virgin tv medium package plus broadband and landline on disability benefits. I threatened to leave, but they've cut 16 pounds off my bill but I've had to drop down to freeview. they did throw in a TiVo box though.
Many thanks to all who contribute on MSE :)

I'm almost 100% sure that sky don't even bother taking notes on customer accounts as everytime I call they always ask the same questions and never know what a different advisor told you. This whole bluff thing doesn't seem to track with what has been said throughout this thread. Why do people say call multi times and speak to different advisors if each one jots down what happened in your last convo?

I can shed some light on this as I used to work in customer service.

Every time someone accesses your account they leave a footprint. 9/10 there will be a very detailed note on the account. Some departments are backoffice and dont leave notes.

They reason a new advisor asks the same questions is because its part of the guidelines.

    Well mine is off finally.

    My offers section online says:

Unfortunately we are unable to show your exclusive offers available online. To continue or for more information, please call...

So I guess I'm getting no half price offer. Not sure I'm bothered, got broadband price down and youview isn't too bad.

call them you will have to be put through to win back team as they cant access your account, then its time to blag, tell them you have a letter with whatever the percentage is you are looking for or just say offers to come back and see what they say. they want you to come back so its only the cost of the call, use sayno0870 and get a landline and you can even use your mobile minutes if you have them

Cheers, might try that if the wife can't get on with the youview box.

To be honest, we don't really watch many of their channels anyway, but I thought if I could get the basic package for £10ish then it might be worthwhile.
  • well cancelled our sky on thursday last week and so far have only received a letter to say the cut off date. the guy I spoke to to cancel wasn't interested that we were cancelling and just put it straight through, I am on maternity leave at the minute and told him thats why we were cancelling as it was a luxury. We have the full tv package with sports movies and hd. (phone and bb with bt). Looking through this forum i can see that the resounding answer is to sit tight and wait but find it strange that they didn't even try to convince us to stay.

have there been any instances where people haven't been made an offer at all once cancelling? Do I call back- not really sure what to say….my partner is not happy at all as he's going to lose the rugby but thinking we'll sign up to a months netflix for free but nervous now that we won't be offered anything

Like previous people have said you need to cancel and mean it, the initial advisors don't get any offers usually unless you are completely past your contract end date! Sit back though and play the waiting game, get to the last week before your services stop then even phone back and ask for retentions soon as you get transferred there state you have received a letter in the post and request you speak to the winback department, the winback are only outbound so they may refuse, if they do be stubborn and say it's ok just leave it to cancel I'm glad I'm leaving and hang up after giving them an attempt to saving you maybe?

Its been said by myself and others many times, the offer doesn't show up straight away for everyone... mine took a month before it changed to the 50% offer.
