Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

Do not do this.
Check on mysky for credits on your next bill and/or contact them again if you get charged for the additional month. They did the same for me but I could see that next months bill had a credit due to cover the additional month.
There's no credit yet. I've emailed the ceo as I've tried customer services too many times now.
I'm staying with them for internet so that's not an option. Is prefer my bill not to jump up to £52 from £00 -

I've had Sky for nearly 5 years now, and phoned late last year (for the first time) to haggle the price down. They knocked about £20 off my monthly bill for 6 months, which has just gone back up again. If I give them another ring, what's the likelihood of them offering another discount?
EDIT: Never mind, they have offered me another reduction but it's a pretty crappy one. Think I'll cancel and look elsewhere.0 -
Hey posted a thread but had no reply so wondering if anyone in here could help.
Me and my fiance moved into our current flat last year, her sister moved in with us and as her contribution towards things took out the sky contract and paid for it.
She has since moved out and we have just switched the bills to come out of my bank account. Now our year is up we have cancelled the sky contract in my fiances sisters name in order to take our own out. Our cancellation date is at the beginning of July.
My question is could I get one of the 50% codes advertised and sign up now but my contract not start until the date the current one ends?
Thanks0 -
Doubt you would be regarded as a new customer as they will already link your name to the cancelled account at the same address because you switched the bank account.
Usually you need to be a new name at a new address to be perceived as new customer. Or to have actually cancelled before they offer the best deals to come back.
But there is no reason not to try, of course.
Or if your fianc!e has another account and different name she could probably sign up using the codes.0 -
So the 75% deal is 100% off the table for now? Best I've seen people post lately is 60% with 50 credit. I recently took 50% off TV with £50 credit + free line rental and BB and was just wondering if I left any money on the table? I tried to get the 2TB box for £49 but was quoted £300 which is redic.0

Hiya.
I've had sky for over a decade now and have the full TV shebang which totals about £75.
I'm thinking of calling them up and going through the cancellation process with the hope of them calling me back before the cut off day with a better offer.
Is this particularly realistic on my part? What sort of things should I be telling the cancellation department when I call to cancel?
*I couldn't go through with really cancelling as the kids would go crazy without their fix of the various kids channels.
Thanks all.
Might work and you might get an offer. But if you are going to play the cancellation card IMO you have to be prepared to go through with it.
If sky call your bluff and don't offer anything before cut off and you then show your were bluffing there will be a big note on your account labelled "BLUFFER" threatens to cancel but does not. Game set and match to Sky until you actual do go through with the cancellation (and even then i bet they hold out for a long time knowing that if you came back once with no discount you will do it again.)
Get the Kids a months free netflix when sky gets cut off and see if you really do need Sky.
long time full paying customers tend have to go through with the cancel and hold tight for a few weeks before being given an offer judging the posts on this thread.0 -
I'm almost 100% sure that sky don't even bother taking notes on customer accounts as everytime I call they always ask the same questions and never know what a different advisor told you. This whole bluff thing doesn't seem to track with what has been said throughout this thread. Why do people say call multi times and speak to different advisors if each one jots down what happened in your last convo?0

You can have them install sky on a day that fits your schedule as long as they have engineers available that day. I don't think you can have them install it and then wait 2-3 weeks before starting your contract though.0 -

Therefore don't believe everything you read from some anonymous poster online - use your own judgement0
