Not strictly true, it is very possible to watch sky sports channels on Android devices, you can watch movies and TV programmes that air on Sky too.

Its all highly illegal though so I certainly won't be posting on here about how to do it.

If you find my posts useful, "pay it forward" and help someone else out, that's how places like MSE can be so successful.
  • Certainly some logic on what is being said about those with triple services.

However it is FACT that many have cancelled only TV services and have been offered 50-75% by the winback team to switch back on. It is also FACT that during this negotiation the winback team have extended offers to the BB service that is still in place.
Even credits to the account have been offered to cover "other costs".

Sky is hardly the only supplier who offers the "triple play" of TV, broadband and telephone.
It's hardly a money saving option to use three different suppliers, though.

What point paying extra, just for the privilege of being able to cancel one service without the other?

The whole point is to save money.

As for the silly nickname, only a very few posters on internet forums refer to companies by such names.

You, yourself, once pointed out here that the best solution, in terms of product superiority, was to get your television service from Sky, your broadband from Virgin and your telephone from (if I recall correctly) BT.

(And, after our own experiences with Plusnet broadband, there’s no way I would ever let Plusnet get control of our telephone service as well, however much money it saved.)

But there’s more to it than just saving money and being hog-tied in your attempts to haggle over the price of each service because you’re getting them all from the same supplier.

Subscription television may be a luxury but your telephone service and your broadband are essential utilities. You can’t afford to take risks on their service and reliability.

If you get into a dispute with a single company that is supplying your television, your broadband and your telephone, and it cuts you off, you’re going to have a lot of problems trying to sort that lot out without the necessary tools to do so.

To state, in your customarily over-simplistic way that “the whole point is to save money” is to ignore the fact that if you buy the cheapest thing available, you usually end up regretting it because the service fails to deliver what you want reliably and getting it rectified costs more in time, effort, money and frustration than buying something better, which does work, in the first place.

The whole point is actually to get the best services available but to obtain each of them for lowest price possible.

Yes, it means the vast majority who have all these with one supplier will not find it straightforward to get the best deals.

I do agree there are always exceptions to every rule, though. :)

Right I have an update since my first post.

My Sky was disconnected last Monday (07.04.14). Logged on to my sky the next day to see that I had an exclusive 50% off offer on TV. Just got off the phone to Sky 5 minutes ago ( I was away on holiday in Devon all weeks from last Monday), & got the 50% deal no problem but I thought I'd be cheeky & said that I spoke to a work colleague who got 75% off & could I get that offer. She responded with the 75% off expired a couple of weeks ago, but said she might be able to better the 50% off. She came back with 60% off which means full package including HD for £30.05 a month.

I was happy with 50% off but to get better than that I'm over the moon. Thanks to all you guys on here. If I'd not have seen this thread I would have still been paying £67.25 a month.

dont worry, mine was exactly the same until i was disconnected, logged in, 50% off was right there as soon as you logged in, had sky down about 15 mins in total, just accepted via the sky live chat,

Please may I prevail upon you to clarify which Sky “packs” you were on when your cancellation notices expired and your Sky TV was cut off, and which “packs” you were put on to when you contacted Sky and your Sky TV resumed later the same day.

It has always been my understanding that if you are on the Entertainment (or the Entertainment Extra) pack and the “old” HD pack (£10.25 per month but with the Formula One HD channel for “free”) you will lose the latter, forever, and never be able to get it back again, if you ever let your Sky TV contract actually terminate.

So, did your same-day restoration get you back your previous packs or were you switched to the Entertainment Extra Plus pack?

I really would be most grateful if you could clarify this, for the benefit of everyone. :)

When i first signed up to Sky just over 12 months ago, We got the Sky World package & HD was an extra £10.25 a month.

Before i called up Sky go give my 31 days notice i had already downgraded my subscription by removing sports & entertainment extra to reduce my bill a couple of months earlier. I still kept the HD which meant that indeed i still had Sky Sports F1.

I notice now Sky have changed their package names again, entertainment extra is now called family. I also believe that you are right & that the F1 channel is no longer tied up with the HD pack, I think it is now tied in with the Sports pack.

So i don't have the the "pack" that i originally had. I am now on Sky's latest package.

Also just to add i had to sign up to a new 12 month contract too.

My brother has been talking about these being away to stream Sky for free once you have bought the box.
He is under the impression that you can watch all of the sky channels for free anytime, including movies and sports.
Does any one have any experience of this?

You can watch Sky on the go with, errrr, Sky Go. You can only view channels that you already subscribe to.

There are also ways to watch Sky without any payment to Sky but these methods are illegal so I won't discuss them here. These methods can (In theory) be traced back to an individual household so not without risk and if caught you could face a sizeable fine.

I get my TV from Sky, with broadband and telephony from Virgin. That's my choice based on my own ability to pay the extra expense and my belief that the respective products are individually better from those suppliers.

I have at no time said that this is a money-saving option.

I'd also rather stick pins in my eyes than buy anything from BT.
