As has been said over and over on this thread, you have to actually cancel (and mean it) to get the best deals. No point calling every few months to simply ask for a discount, you are lucky being offered 10% doing that.

I'm with Virgin Media and have 10 months to run on an 18 month contract. I'm due to move in the next 3 months to an area where VM don't cover. Will I have to pay the remaining 8 months of my contract or do VM charge a cancellation fee as they are unable to cover my new home?

You will have to pay cancellation charges based on their T&C

Called Sky canx team Sat am and zilch return, they offered paltry 10% discount for 12 months (£84 reduction on my annual bill of £720) so didnt bother taking it up

Also rang them earlier this year January time and same story then

Mentioned to advisor that colleagues and neighbours of mine had negotiated discounts on their subs some up tp 50% and advisor said she had never heard of such offers in the twelve months she has worked in canx team

Seems like its pot luck on whether they offer you anything and customer advisor was happy for me to go ahead and put in a canx request!!

Been with sky over 15years and feel a bit done by with not getting any worthwhile offer / discount

As is constantly said in this thread you have to cancel to have any type of discount.

It also depends where you live and what options are available to you- Sky logically are much more likely to play ball if you can leave for another provider or take their broadband. Monthly spend also is taken into account.

Hence why if you live in a rural area (like me) you are unlikely to get a big discount.

So..if you have three services are you saying cancel the whole lot? If so, it's nigh on impossible to transfer back to Sky if you have moved your number/signed a contract elsewhere.

Or, do you cancel the TV part but keep the broadband/phone line going?

You won't be offered the best deals unless you cancel everything. If you still remain a customer, then you are still a part of their revenue stream and so only minimal deals may be offered.

If you cancel and "go elsewhere" why would you still be seeking a reduction from Sky? You'd have new customer deals etc already if you moved elsewhere.

Nowhere did I say anyone should cancel and go to another supplier, my reply was to someone who thought all he had to do was request a reduction every couple of months!

Well, if I cancel *everything* I'll lose my existing phone number and also (Presumably) I'd have to pay a fee to get my line re-instated.

That's the reason Sky and Virgin (amongst others) encourage as many customers as possible to sign up for the Triple Play of TV, Broadband and 'phone. If you are unwilling to cancel your whole account then Sky have no incentive to offer you the best deals to stay as you aren't leaving them!

Not for nothing is Sky called "Sly".

You’re on its “Catch 22” pack.

It may seem more expensive, at first sight, but it's best to get your TV, your telephone and your broadband from separate suppliers.

If you amalgamate them, your sole supplier then has you by the nuts.

Sky is hardly the only supplier who offers the "triple play" of TV, broadband and telephone.
It's hardly a money saving option to use three different suppliers, though.

What point paying extra, just for the privilege of being able to cancel one service without the other?

The whole point is to save money.

As for the silly nickname, only a very few posters on internet forums refer to companies by such names.
  • My brother has been talking about these being away to stream Sky for free once you have bought the box.
He is under the impression that you can watch all of the sky channels for free anytime, including movies and sports.
Does any one have any experience of this?
    Thank you
