Moneyineptitude is right you generally have to leave to get the best deals. I left 2 months ago and eventually had phone call to say they had sent me offers but had not replied and they would like to offer me 75% off deal for all channels.

Just an update on my post 5311. I have the Sky World package with multiroom and have been with Sky for 25 years. Cancelled my subscription in 2012 as I could not secure a good discount prior to cancellation. During my 31 day notice period I was offered 50% off for 12 months which I accepted. This offer expired in November 2013 so I thought it was time to secure another discount as finances are tight.

After 2 calls to Sky the best I could secure was 25% off, so I cancelled on the 7th March. Today I received a call from Sky Win Back team to see why I had cancelled. I told then that I could no longer afford it and since I now had Amazon Prime Instant for free and BT Sports free with my broadband, I couldn't see the need for Sky anymore. I was then offered 35% off by the advisor which I instantly rejected saying that saving nearly £80 a month without Sky was a lot of money. I was then offered 50% off for 12 months with no contract, which I agreed to.

I could have rejected the offer, seen out my notice period, and waited for the 75% come back to Sky offers to arrive. However, I was keen to hold on to my current package with the old HD subscription, which if I so choose to, allows me to cancel Sports in the future and still retain Sky Sports F1. I am really happy with the outcome and it shows that if you do cancel, you can achieve at least a 50% discount, even if you have enjoyed a 50% discount in a previous year.

Just called sky again (win back team) and managed to negotiate 50% off the full package and free broadband for 12 months :j
  • My own 75% and £100 credit is documented before.
Just to add my work colleague came in with a smile today.
He has previously had 75% discount.
He cancelled and has been without Sky TV for circa 3 weeks.
Difference from myself was he had retained Sky Phone and BB.
The winback team phoned and 1st offer without prompting was 75% for 12 months without contract. This is for entertainment extra with movies and sport. £14.25 instead of £55.00
After accepting they "threw in" Free BB for 12 months saving an additional £7.50 a month (I believe). This was NOT requested and no threat of cancelling had been made.
The only loss on this deal is the way they now charge HD. Even on that he can apply the 75% discount to Extra+ at £1.25 a month if he wishes.
No discount avaialble for HD for movies and sport.

Yes he is paying full line rental.
The point I was really making was, no need to cancel BB and Phone to still in this case get offered 75% on TV
Lots of people I believe are under the impression you have to cancel all services to get (what I believe is) the best discount available. Clearly cancelling BB is more of a pest.

Then for them to throw in free BB without threat/request was again interesting to note.

Thx. I did understand you point - just didn't acknowledge it, sorry. I've been shouted down for offering differing/additional 'advice', drawn from my and other people's experiences....Especially your point about not having to cancel respective services to get the best deals.

I'm thinking of switching my BB to Sky, too. Hence the interest in Line Rental cost.

Talking generally, there's quite a fight going on between BT, TalkTalk and Sky (to name but 3) at the moment to keep and gain subscribers - especially those taking TV BB phone bundles. TalkTalk, eg, offer BB for only £2.50 and they are starting to encourage existing customers to get the same deals as new customers (page banners etc). Their TV (though not very good imo), relatively cheaper. Perhaps Sky are starting to pull their finger out!
It would help them if they next re-introduced up-front line rental...

Jeez, scrap the last paragraph. I just noticed the 'latest news' link re Talktalk price rises. Unbelievable. Really goes to show how one should be pro-active and ask for a better price, as well as wait for the 'winback' phone-call...

That's me in the bad books with the wife, just had a phone call from Sky with a 75% off any TV package and never took them up on it. Just not bothered with it and cannot be bothered with all those reality programmes that she watches.
Phone number was 01332 387201, also said that the offer was on for a few more weeks.

Despite grumbles on their forum, Sky insist that they will not be reinstating line rental saver. This was even when it was pointed out that other providers are actually introducing one. eg.Tesco.

Wow that sucks. Not that line rental savers are amazing to begin with though, BT's goes up every year and is now equivalent to nearly £12pm anyway!

Hopefully FTTP will come to my area soon so I can ditch my phone line altogether. It's still needed for FTTC unfortunately.
