They've already said that the 50% discount we got last year would end on march 19th anyway so I don't really see that I've got anything to lose.
    Fair enough.

They won't call you, they are much more likely to try and tempt you back with postal flyers. They certainly won't be contacting you in the first week after cancellation.

If you ring them, they'll be happy to re-activate your subscription at the same cost you were paying!

    Just to say,

I am with sky for my TV.

This time last year I used a MSE 50% discount code, which I am coming to the end of, I was previously with Virgin.

My sky installation was 28/03/2013, on 02/03/2014 I phoned and cancelled my sky tv by giving my 30 days notice.

On 06/03/2014, only 4 days later I received a phone call from sky ( loyalty team ) asking why I was leaving.

I told them it was down to money, and that I had been offered a 50% discount if I return to Virgin.

I had been receiving the full sky tv package including sky movies and sky sport, and had been paying £33.63 per month over the last twelve months, which included the HD pack. ( not including BT sport )

Sky then offered me the same package for £37.05 + £2.50 for the HD pack, making a total of £39.55.

This offer was for twelve months, but I was NOT in a contract, and could cancel by giving 30 days notice.

    I accepted the deal.

    The call can come anytime.:)

    Regards.

There was never any doubt that you can cancel and get offers before your thirty-one days notice are up. However, many many posts in this thread attest to the fact that the best deals are only offered after the services are switched off.
The response you quoted was in reply to someone who has already lost all services..

But if you had held your nerve, and refused the deal offered you could have saved substantially more...

Maybe many many posts do get the best deals AFTER the services are switched off, and I am happy with my deal...

... but you seem to have missed the point??

    YOU SAID

"They certainly won't be contacting you in the first week after cancellation".

I'm just letting you know they do... why the argument????:(

But the point was that they didn't contact you after the notice period, you accepted a deal before your services were cut off. I'm not arguing the truth of your post that they can call during the notice period, you quoted my post which was in answer to someone whose notice period has ended!

Regardless, you're right they can call you any time it takes their fancy.:T
  • Well that was quick.

All Sky TV services stopped on Friday after a year of the 50% off MSE deal. At the weekend I unplugged the Sky HD box and put the Humax Freeview box back in after giving it a good dust. Rescanned for the latest channels and put them in a sensible order. All working well although I am noticing the poorer picture quality having been spoilt by HD channels on Sky.

Mondays post arrives with a come back to Sky flyer offering 50% off any package.

As stated many times if you want the best offers you must see through your cancellation. I am thinking of taking up their offer but seeing the 75% discount above that JMG4321 was offered I might wait and see what happens. They have given me till March 20th till their offer ends.

I'd see what the next flyer has to offer (probably a month away), but do realise that not everyone will get that 75% ...

I'm sorry but it is not true to say you MUST see through your cancellation to get the best offers. Though I'd agree that it may be true that this will apply in the majority of cases, there are customers who manage to get the best deal without having to have the service terminated. They choose to phone up and try their luck. Perhaps several times.
The links I posted earlier have examples of this.

What can I do to get a discoumt ?
    I am a non-speaker
I have repeatedly emailed Disabled Customer Services and just get a "sorry we are not set up for discounts"
When I ask for retentions email address - I am told " sorry - they do not operate by email"
I have been a Sky customer for 8 years and believe that they are showing prejudice...
Any suggestions as to a way forwards ?

Is there any chance a friend can phone for you while you are with them, it isn't right or fair that you cannot receive the same deals that other people get.:)
