So what's occurring here?
Phoned up to cancel on 3 Feb and as no offer made I went ahead with cancellation. However, leading up to the cut off day of today 7 March I never received a written confirmation. Phoned this Monday to chase up the letter and they apologized and assured me that services would end on the 7th and they would resend letter. As of yesterday there was still no sign of cancellation letter so I called up again to be told there had been a delay in letter but to assure me that services would still end as scheduled today.
This is where it gets weird. Come today I can't use the Sky+ record/pause functions which is what is meant to happen. However, the Entertainment Extra channels and Sports are still available on the Sky+ box in the lounge and have only stopped bring available on the small bedroom TV which was part of the multi room subscription. I have now also today finally received the cancellation letter dated 03 February.
Any ideas what's going on here? And just to qualify on the three occasions I spoke to Sky it was reiterated that I was cancelling ALL services and the account details confirm this on screen. Whilst obviously I am waiting for them to make me an offer to come back it looks bizarrely like I could carry on watching all my old package albeit on only the main tv and without the recording/pause facilities.0 -

I have had the Sky full package (Sky World + 1 multiroom) for 25 years and have never had any free boxes or discounts (Sky's Dream Customer). In November 2012 finances were tight so I contacted Sky and cancelled (as no decent offers were made). I wasn't contacted by phone or email during the 31 day notice period (as at some point I had set my Sky Marketing Preferences to NO Contact by any method), so I phoned them a few days before cut off and was offered a 50% discount for 12 months with no contract, which I accepted. This ended in November 2013 and my payments went back up to £78.50 per month.
I decided to see what discounts I could extract this time around, so I phoned Sky about a week ago. After telling them I did not want to reduce my package they offered a discount of 10% which increased to 20% when I threatened to cancel. The Sky advisor I was speaking to said there may be better discounts in a week or so. Today I phoned Sky again and after the usual attempts to get me to reduce my package I was offered 25% off, when I said no just cancel it, the advisor spoke to his manager who could not (would not) better the 25% offer. OK I said just cancel it which they did.
My switch off date is the 9th April and I will await the call or email from Sky with a 50% or better offer. If Sky do not get in contact, then I will call them just before my off date. If they don't come up with the deal I want, I will wait until the come back to Sky 75% offers start to arrive as they will. Its just a case of being patient.
I will keep you updated with the outcome. Don't be afraid to cancel as that is when the best deals are offered. If you get cold feet and Sky don't contact you during your 31 day notice period, you can always phone up the day before and accept the best deal they offer you, without loss of service, so you have nothing to lose.0 -
I too rang today and spoke with retentions. Was put on hold for over 10 minutes when they came back to me and said they could offer me 10% off for year as though giving me the earth! I have never had any discounts in all the 12 years I have been with them so this is what that's worth.0

Spot on! It all went off yesterday morning.
Now it's the cold turkey time and wait for them to call. Typically how long have people had to wait after cancelation before they called? I appreciate that you should wait for them rather than call them. To be really honest its the ability to record and pause that I am seriously missing and its quite a pleasant surprise to realise how many free channels you can still get. Unfortunately, my Achilles heal is that I love both football and cricket which Sky does satisfy brilliantly.0 -
Took 6 days from the TV going off to receiving a 50% flyer though the post. Just need to decide whether to wait for 75% or not.0

A post was made several days ago on this forum with regards a deal that plusnet are currently doing, which may enable people to negotiate a deal with their current phone/Tv/bband supplier. Details of deal are at :
http://www.plus.net/home-broadband/?WT.mc_id=sem_009g
I am currently with Ttalk for phone/bband and TV (including Sports) with Sky. Via Quidco, I am currently moving to Plusnet for approximately £19 per month, where I will get :
1. Free evening and w/end phones.
2. Unlimited b/band.
3. BT Sports and ESPN channels via my Sky dish.
all included within the price.
I have tried to get Sky to renew my current 50% off price for TV without success and am currently in a 31 day cancellation period. They have offered me 20% off but I won't budge until I am offered at least 50% off.
It is a game of cat and mouse but, to be frank, I am not that bothered if I lose Skysports as I can just stream to my PC anyway without paying them a penny lol !0 -
Sounds exactly the same scenario. We have TV and broadband with them and are more than happy with that (in fact they've given us a 50% discounnt on all of that for the next year).
So if they call in a few days, offer me something else, I decline and say I want to cancel then I'll have until mid april to see if they come back with anythign more. Sounds like a good idea to me.
Thanks for your help.
The problem you will have is that you didn't cancel, where-as Space Captain did. So he got a call back for this, you definitely won't if you didn't actually cancel.
But the discounts on the rest ie telephone and broadband cost are the best you can get.0 -

If you ring them, they'll be happy to re-activate your subscription at the same cost you were paying!0
