hi, my sister currently has the entertainment package for £21.50 she arranged today to get sky broadband and line rental. She didn't have an existing landline and installation was chucked n for free. She has signed for a 12 nth contract at 1/2 price for the full 12 months. My question is can she now get a deal on her tv package s she is out of contract on this?
I have rang sky and they said it is impossible as she has already had 2 discounts on line rental and broadband, is this true?

Well after some many months waiting it appears that BT and Sky have finally got the Fibre offerings in my area.

I've been with Virgin for just over 2 yrs and have been delighted with their service but now the competitors have switched on their services it's time to move I think.

I was weighing up options the other day but then saw the MSE 50% off TV codes for 12months on SKY and that has pretty much blitzed everything else out of the water (even the cashback site deals).

I'm going to get a quote with the MSE codes and then give Virgin a ring and say either match it or I'm off. I do like Virgins broadband speed (currently I'm on 60Mbps which will become 100mbps soon for free I think) but Skys 40Mpbs will do the job just as well for our purposes.

So on that basis if Virgin cannot give me Sky Sports and many additional channels for FREE for 12months (that's effectively what I'd gain by moving) then I shall be off.

    Why settle for anything less?

You can cancel all TV and telephony services with Virgin and buy a Freeview box. You'd only receive "free to air" channels, though.
Why don't you simply ring Virgin and see how much they'd charge for broadband only?

Cancelled Sky and the service was cut off 2 weeks ago.

Came home yesterday to see 7/8 missed calls on my home landline from an 0800 number. When I called it, there was a recorded message from Sky stating they were trying to contact me.

I called them back (on an 020 number) and was told, "yes, we've got a special 75% off offer" just for me if I return.

The 75% off would have been around £8/month for the EE+ package (no sports or movies) and £18/month for the Complete Bundle.

I would have taken it up, but have had another offer to take up with the Sky 25th Anniversary offer (from a friend that works for Sky). The 25/25 deal is all the Complete Bundle and will last for the next two years and one month.

I did try to sign up via TCB, but the Sky online order system detected that we had Sky at our address previously (2 weeks ago!), the sales service rep on the phone call was happy to waive it through though and place the order under my wife's name as a new customer.

    Excellent.
Thank you soooo much for the last sentence. Really does stamp on the theory that Sky give a damn about people switching accounts into the name of someone else living in that respective household.

Does anyone else have trouble running the broadband availability checker tool for Sky?

Just thought I would reply to this as I had some success just this week. I was in the same situation, we have the full phone/TV/net package with Virgin. We have a custom package with the fastest available (120MB) broadband but with the cheapest possible phone and TV, and it was coming out at £58/month. Ouch!

So we decided to find out if we could just get broadband. I phoned them up and was quoted £38/month to drop the TV and phone, with broadband still at 120Meg, and might rise to £43/month after 6 months.

However after I said that seemed silly and we had been with Virgin for a long time, all that's happened is the prices have risen and we seem to be getting the same service for more and more money, the rep said he could do us the upgraded broadband (150Meg), our existing phone package and the upgrade TV package, for £42/month. He will also try and get us a new Hub.

We worked out that we use a couple of quids' worth of phone calls every month and while we mainly watch Freeview channels, we'd still have to buy a HD Freeview box if we did drop Virgin TV - so the extra £60 over the year is less than we'd pay for making those calls on our mobiles and buying a new box as well. (Also it's a saving of £190 over the year from the previous price!)

    I was quite happy :j

Ok so I've now ordered Sky as Virgin are completely unable to compete with Sky's premium channels being offered (which I can understand - why would a competitor offer a rival to sell their premium products cheaper).

    So this is the deal.

I am going to cancel my Virgin Media package of:-
60MB broadband, M+ TV and M Phone (including reduced international calls) which comes to £51pm

I am going to replace from Sky with:-
40MB broadband, Sky Sports and Sky Movies plus the Entertainment Extra+ pack (incl 3D and HD pack) and basic phone package (no need for international call with the advent of FaceTime!) which comes to:-

    £61pm for 6mnths
    £71pm for the next 6mnths
    £102pm thereafter

For all the box sets/movies and sports on the go I thought that was a steal. And no doubt in 12months I shall be promptly moving back to Virgin or onto BT depending on what we fancy.

Thanks MSE - great offer code!

Still £102 pm is a huge amount to pay for a few electrons
I can't justify paying anywhere near that.
