Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

We recently had our bill increased by Virgin. They also told us that from Jan 2015, I T security would be chargeable quarterly. We have phone, tv and internet. One box, not even the new TiVo box and we have sky sports
New customers can get the above for a low rate in first 6 months. Then £52 per month, plus phone charge of £15.99. Oh and they get a second TiVo box too.
I wrote a letter of complaint - explaining that even after 6 months - new customers will pay quite a lot less than loyal customers of years. This is so unfair that we pay more to allow them to save. Their complaints team offered £5 a month off for 18 months. But that would tie us in for a year. Also said that the 6 month rate is still an intro rate. That after 12th month that would end.
Surely the new customers bill would still not be over £100 per month (once Internet security is chargeable)
I said we need to think about it. But we are considering leaving.
Now waiting. Any suggestions?0 -
We are about to finish 6 months totally free Sky TV package with sports and movies so phoned to give full notice of cancellation. After three calls I came away with any package half price for 12 months plus broadband and linerental for £7.70 per month for 12 months. We chose the package with HD and 3d plus movies and sports (not in HD) for £31.
All in all, unlimited broadband, line rental and full TV package for £38.50 per month which I reckon is fairly good value. To infinity and beyond!0 -
had a phone call today from sky offered me sports and movies packages for £10 extra a month for 3 months will do nicely0

Is anyone else fed up to the back teeth - with discounts on new accounts with Sky ?
What about existing - long term customers - why don't we ever get a look in ?0 -

The people who are really fed up follow the advice from this thread and ring up to cancel and see what they're offered by way of discounts.
If you ran Sky (or any other company) would you offer automatic discounts to millions of customers who are happy to pay full price?0 -
Been a loyal Sky customer for over 8 years now, rang to cancel the sports due to financial constraints and was basically offered nothing to stay, I have it for golf and football, not holding out much hope of a return phone call0

Same here - Sky appears to be able to rely on new customers at the expense of long term customers!!0 -
I was thinking about changing my service provider to sky, and I was wondering if sky broadband is good. today I just rang to the sky customer service and they dealt me very patiently and offered me so many great offers as a new customer.0

If you only cancelled sports but kept other stuff then you are right, very unlikely you will get a call. You need to cancel everything to have the best chance of getting a deal.A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A
If you find my posts useful, "pay it forward" and help someone else out, that's how places like MSE can be so successful.0 -
Sky have attempted to phone me back twice now. Both time at 10:30am during the week.
Each time i've politely told them that during normal working hours isn't a good time, and offered an alternative time to call back....say after 5:30pm when home from work.
Completely ignored, and they try calling me at 10:30am again. Really!0
