Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

Hi All
I am wondering if they could provide their tactics for me to try. I currently have the following:- Telephone XL I believe it is called anytime calls to normal phones
- TV XL TiVo box and VM HD box in another room. (this incs BT sports)
- 60Mbps broadband (which due to over utilisation issues for the entire contract I have had about £14 a month back on but it requires I call)
- Sky Sports HD package which is about £37.50.
I am currently paying about £105 for this. It is too much as far as I am concerned but I am not going back to BT (their customer services is terrible), however I have seen some sky deals that look interesting but nothing with the speed of the internet that VM provide (even if it is very over subscribed).
For what I am getting I would consider a 50% reduction to be acceptable so areound the £50 mark, however reading about 75% off that would obviously be even better.
telephone talk weekends + 08 2
TV L with 1 HD box
Broadband L
Given that I believe your tv and phone package is superior to mine, your broadband is faster, you have sky sports and a Tivo box which I do not have and I'm paying £42.49(pre price increase) after a small loyalty discount I can't see how VM will cut your bill down to 50 or even 60 pounds never mind 74% off.
Having said that though I wish you luck and hope you get as much off as is humanely possible. I'll be trying to bluff them into knocking my charges down in the next few weeks by giving them notice to quit and then hopefully getting a call back saying they can give me a discount. If they don't then I'll just have to back down and withdraw my cancellation notice.0 -
Thanks for the advice, I thought I had seen people getting 75% off of VM but if it is Sky then fair enough. I am only looking for a 50% discount really.
My main points to hit them on will be the standard of broadband service I have received especially recently which has been very poor (1800ms pings on average with 2 of 4 packets dropped).
If I could get them to just stick me on a contract at 50% then I would take an 18 month one.0 -
Told Sky I was cancelling last night!
They offered 20% for 8 months, then 10% for 12 months, not sure what school of maths they went to but I am fairly sure that's worse
Anyway, see what they come up with in the next 30 days.0 -
Just called Sky to get a better deal - as Virgin have a good deal on - offered me 10% off - about £5 a month!! Told them I was not happy with my broadband as I was promised 8mb and I only get 4.. said to call technical to sort it - already have and they can do nothing!!!
Have been with Sky for 8 years, so they thanked me for my loyalty - not enough though..
I would like what virgin offer - 30mb broadband, HD and phone line - they said they do not price match.
Left the call to say I will speak with their technical team and review my options then.
I know to get the best deals I have to actually cancel, but as I work from home I am dependant on my broadband and phone connection, so how can I get a good deal when I cannot actually go through with a cancellation? If the world is a stage... I want better lighting!0 -
Pretty shocked!
Been paying £60 p/m for sports/hd/movies etc.
Gone up to £95, as I'm now out of contract, rang to cancel and the best they could offer was half price phone (which I have never used ) and broadband. A saving of £12 a month only for 9 months.
Terrible!0 -
Nope No good. Called up got offered my existing package with unlimited calls removed for £89. Not low enough for my liking. Will do the waiting dance then0

It is a retentions deal, free Sky + HD box, 50% of the entertainment package for 12 months, in a 12 month contract, = £16 p/m.
Hi what's a retentions deal please ? I m on the basic package and am paying £24.50 and was thinking of cancelling but what do people use when they do cancel, a humax box or something0 -
but what do people use when they do cancel, a humax box or something
Only reason to buy a Humax box after cancelling Sky is to facilitate recording features without subscription.0 -
Hi all
Newbie here, just wondering if there are any 50% sky codes available, I'm planning on getting sky tv with sports and broadband but hoping to save money where I can. Friend advised me to ask here, any help will be much appreciated0 -
Just got off the line with VM retention dept.He offered me virtually the same package except speed of 30mb rising to 50mb later in the Year.
Said not really a factor as am currently on 20mb and seems OK for me.Mentioned the free BT sport being the biggest factor and he came back with very best offer of £45 for the first 6 months then £54 after. Also includes TiVo box but not really a big factor for me as we aren't massive users of our V + box.
Use catch up occasionly and record the odd program.
Said was really keen to move to the BT TV entertainment Infinity 1 package for £30 first six months then £38 after.Broadband speed quoted was up to 38mb and VM would upgrade me to 30mg.Online offer includes free connection and £100 Sainsburys card.
Left the call with him after saying I'm more than likely to not take VM with me and he said they would wait for my call to confirm my next step.
Will I likely receive another call from them ?
Thanks
Been with them for quite a few years , probably 18 years in 3 houses , and never rang up trying to haggle.
Will move next week and ring BT and order the "TV Entertainment Infinity 1" package for around £38 and will make do without broadband until they come round to connect me.The truth shall set you free.....................0
