no phone call or leaflet received… I have spoken to the call centre
Sky have called your bluff, you contacted them yourself and asked about a discount. All advice is to cancel (and mean it) and then wait for Sky to contact you...
  • I handed in my cancellation notice 12 days ago and their only response has been a flyer offering the Entertainment Extra+ package with free HD box for £2.50 for 3 months £5 thereafter AND with 12 month min contract.
Looks like they are not bending over backwards to persuade me to stay.

Obviously they won't send you the best deals first. Patience will likely be rewarded in this case and it won't be until your services are actually cut off that Sky will accept that you definitely mean to cancel.

It's actually not that usual for any deals to come your way when in the notice period, so this is a good start...

Have been a Virgin media customer for Years and am about to move house.I have never been with Sky and was last with BT about 20 years ago.
In my Virgin package of about £48 a month I get :
    20mb. Broadband
    M+ TV
    M. Phone
    V+ box

I don't subscribe to any Film or Sports packages.I am not too bothered about having SKY and might be interested in BT ( for the free BT sports ).
Should I tell Virgin that I am thinking of joining BT and see if they could improve my package ? ( I know its only a modest monthly amount).
Also , would I need to upgrade to a TiVo box instead of moving with my V+ box ?

    Thanks :money:

It's getting to that time of year where I will have to ask to leave Virginmedia in order to get a price reduction. I have no real desire to cancel so would retract my cancellation within maybe a couple of days of the cut off date should they call my bluff.
I would like to know the experiences of anyone here who has similarly gone to the brink before backing down. I am worried that if I call them to say I have changed my mind and would like to remain a vm customer they might still cancel due to their bureaucratic process rules or through sheer incompetence.

    £576pa is 'modest'?
Bear in mind that once you move with VM you will be in a new minmum term contract, so if you want to negotiate, do it now before you move-because they won't be offering you anything once you're back in minimum term.
Work out what deal you could get from BT or Sky and ask them to better that-though remember that a move to either will cost you up to £130 for a new or reconnected landline.
I presume you are moving to a VM-cabled area?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

It is a retentions deal, free Sky + HD box, 50% of the entertainment package for 12 months, in a 12 month contract, = £16 p/m.
  • After finishing with Sky at the end of december, they just phoned to offer the full package (movies, sports, ent extra etc.) for under £15 a month for 12 months with no contract tie in, roughly 75% off with no major haggling required.

£16 p/m for entertainment pack + HD box free. Is that a good deal?
