  • With my sky hd box having developed a fault  and needing a costly call out I've cancelled sky after 13 years. Retentions offered me some deals but couldn't match what virgin media were offering.
I signed up online via topcashback and got £160 from them to get me started. Virgins sale has given me half price for 6 months and a £75 credit too. I then phoned up to add a friend recommendation and got a £50 credit as well (and the same for my dad too).
I've pretty much got free tv,broadband and phone for the next 6 months and then am paying the same as I did to Sky after that but with faster internet. The last thing I need to try is the deal to pay the line rental up front for 12 months that's on the main site and that should save me another £60.:D:D:j:rotfl::beer:

If I dont set the phone to cancel, Im guessing I wont get any offers during the cancellation period?

If it does cancel on the cancellation date, is it as simple as a "flick of the switch" to turn it back on? I cant really be without broadband for very long as use it for work.

If Sky dont offer me a deal, I've already worked out Virgin Media is gonna be a decent deal but there cash discount runs out this week so I'd need to sign up before then.... not sure what best thing to do is gonna be! Hold out for Sky or go for Virgin Media....

Virgin Media with TCB, Cash discount & free Netflix for 6 months saves me £280 alone

My Sky switched off on Monday and my Virgin Media was installed the previous Friday. I have never received any calls from Sky, unfortunatly a bit like you I am not will to play the waiting game and have no service thats why I switched. I have to say so far I feel that VM is better I have 60mb BB (was on ADSL with Sky getting 12 meg) and the nice TIVO box which Iam now getting to grips with, which to me seems superior to Skys HD box. Other than losing Sky Atlantic I am persnally happy I moved, as I have the package half price for 6 moths and free netfilx

I cancelled and due to be cut off from Sky on 19th Feb.

All i have received is a customer survey asking why i have left.

I have had no flyers or calls (all ticked to receive on my online account)

My worry if i let it be cut off is that i would lose all my recorded programs, there are to many for me to catch up on.

Do i have much power to negotiate a deal before i am cut off?

(I have all the Sky channels, sports, movies etc, plus 1 multi room & HD, was paying £78pm from Dec as just come out of a 50% deal)
  • Received a flyer yesterday for 25% disacount but went on the my sky account and the offer is for 50%. If i hold out how long before the 75% offer comes or do you think it wont?

You're unlikely to get anything while you're still connected. You could chance your arm calling them, but it's highly unlikely (if you do, keep it brief as a general enquiry, if they have any offers on and don't come across as desperate!). They usually don't call you during the notice period.

You won't lose your recordings if you get disconnected. You won't be able to view them, though, until you are re-connected, again.

One of Sky's great imponderables - and I'm not being glib! You just never know. You could get a feel for it by checking on here if people are getting the 75% off that way (meaning there is still 75% off to be had) . Or, perhaps, by finding the 'imaginary' flier on the doormat, as per earlier posts :)

Received virgins "sky switcher" promo leaflet today. Offering the same as available online but with a free recordable hd box for upstairs.

The website only offers a non recordable (V HD) box at an additional 6.50pm. Trouble is I miss out on the 160 cash back and there's no mention of the £75 discount.

What's likelihood if I order the package then phone and say I received this leaflet can I add an additional box free?

If you don't hold your nerve and allow the services to be cut off completely, you won't get the best deals. This is said over and over on this thread.
  • Ok so took the plunge and called sky on the number above. Bearing in mind, i have Virgin tv free for 3 months.

Said i had a flyer for 25% discount but online using My Sky, was offered 50%. He told me he could apply the 50%, to which i told him thanks but no thanks. He then asked if he applied 75% would i rejoin. I said depending on what costs where etc but more than likely yes.

Having movies and HD and the entertainment plus will cost £12 per month! Said im free with Virgin for 2 more months and in they 2 months i would pay SKY £24. Asked if he could do a credit or anything to compensate, all he could do was £5 credit.

I snapped it up, and im now on 75% for a year, no contract tie in either!

PS The same service with Virgin was £60!

    Happy happy days! Thanks everyone!

Be upfront with Virgin about what you are trying to achieve and see what they say. Make sure they realise it could be a deal breaker.
