Did you even read the post?
It read as if you had received a reduction deal up to that point. I sought clarification because it wasn't clear. Perhaps others have better reading comprehension skills than I.

I had no issue whatsoever in you seeking clarification, I admitted myself the post turned into something of a ramble, it was solely the manner in which you asked that irked me a little, however, I'd imagine I'll get over it.

    Good luck.

I'm not currently seeking a reduction deal...:)
  • Sky TV went off for us on January 5th and I've been watching this thread with interest since then. I wasn't particularly bothered about reinstating the sky but did miss the ability to pause.

We originally looked at a humax box but decided that it would take over 18months to reap the benefits. In the meantime we bought a roku LT box and watched now tv. Using the 1 month free sky movies and bought one month free of entertainment pass.

Today I got the call with 50% off (we only have the entertainment extra package) and a £50 credit. That'll do me. Works out about £9 a month. No contract we can cancel at any time.

Didn't need to fib about 75% off and this works out at only just less than 75%... I'm sure if we were movie and sports customers we could have got that though...

The roku box is now going up to the bedroom and can be ready to roll out again next year...

Well done, you played the game and your deal is exactly as would be expected. Why did you receive a £50 credit though?
  • Come on boys and girls play nice ;)

Look some are better than others at this. At the end of the day, it's all a big game.

If you have sky equipment and you are not paying any money to $ky there will always be offers. Although shot down for calling it this, it's a classic loss leader from a shop. You were not paying them any money, you are now paying them money and its not cost them anything to gain this money (ie you have the equipment)

I tip my hat to those that got 75% and a new HD box, that is above and beyond even my level of "negotiation" and something I thought $ky just wouldn't do. I also tip my hat to those with the imaginary flyers, but the post before about it all being about numbers is exactly right. The more subscribers the better, whatever they are paying. There is a lot more to $ky than just subscriptions, eg ad revenue, box office etc etc

I personally cancel and wait, kids hate it but they are sort of used to it now. Was only a few weeks this time for 75% off.

This presumably explains why Sky's profits are currently down while their subscriber numbers remain relatively buoyant ?
  • A subscriber has monetary worth to any company. There is no way Facebook or Twitter would be valued so highly without it's user base. Twitter hasn't made a penny yet but is valued into the billions.

No difference with $ky in that respect. If you are a subscriber they will squeeze money out of you somehow.
  • If you are a subscriber they will squeeze money out of you somehow.
Subscriber numbers need to be maintained to keep advertising revenue at it's current levels. I disagree that Sky will attempt to keep subscribers who continue to pay a token amount though. Deals are always short term and "churn" is a fact of Sky's business.

Exactly right - if you have the equipment and are paying them nothing then they have one less subscriber per month and £x less income. If they can make you an offer and it only takes an extra flick of the switch to turn you back on then better to have the extra subscriber and income - obviously times that by thousands per month....

So you had a 75% discount offer after being switched off? Was that a flyer through your door or a call?
A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A
