Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

Just phoned Sky to cancel my subscription.
Did the same last month, and only got 25% discount on the Entertainment part of the TV package & 6 months free Broadband.
This is due to end just before the end of my current billing period, as the price has gone up on this months bill.
I currently have: TV + HD, 1 x Multiroom, Broadband, Basic phone & Movies.
Was paying £75 a month on the "discounted" package which I realised was little over £10 a month saving.
Phoned to cancel & said it was costing too much and needed to save money. She processed my cancellation straight away, no offers or looking to downgrade. Said I would move to Freesat & take my phone/broadband elsewhere as it was cheaper.
Was told to keep my phone & broadband live and migrate with someone else so I dont lose access for 2-3 weeks while a new provider sets a line up (was this the right thing to do?)
She also said I would lose access to Channel 5, 5*, Channel 4 and some other stuff because Sky have just taken over the license for these and they are no longer free to view channels.... guessing this was the usual smelly stuff coming out there mouths!
Heres hoping for a decent offer - if not hello Freesat... or possibly Talk Talk0 -

I posted the question previously but didn't appear to get a response. If sky including telephone and b/b is cancelled and then Sky offer you 50% off or whatever rate can they switch on your existing phone line to the same number as previously as well or is ity only the TV which is reactivated?Mark Hughes' blue and white army0

I just moved my whole package to Virgin from Sky, I set the months notice with Sky and arranged for Virgin to install a couple of days before it switched off. My BB and phone were up and running with Virgin on the install day so no loss of service. Phone them back and make sure you set notie on these now and just arrange your new service to go on just before this finishes.0 -
Just phoned to cancel my contract - been a customer for about 10 years, they offered 10% disc (we have the entertainment extra package) then retentions offered very slightly more (still less than 20% disc) for 12 months.
Went ahead with the cancellation so we'll see what happens. Am happy to be without it for a few months as we are quite into Netflix at the moment but I will miss some of the programmes on Sky Atlantic that I watch!0 -
just though i would share my story.
Basicilly called end dec to cancel was offered 25% off said no thanks sky went off on 19/1/14.
calle dthe number on here a couple of posts back yesterday and was offered 50% off but told him i had heard of people getting 75% off so i left it ( he said that deal ended last week !)
recieved a call today from sky customer services saying that a new offer had come onto the system and as i had phoned yesterday would i be interested.
i said i wanted 75% off but he stated that he could do not this as i had bb and phone as well?
any way deal was 50% off any package for 12 months (no tie in)
discounted hd to £7.75
one multi room which he said couldnt be discounted £11.25
FREE bb for 12 months and £15.40 line rental
Total for ee+ and sports and movies and hd and multiroom and bb and line rental £62.90 plus a £50 credit.
Thaought that was fair enough as daughter is giving me grief so back on before call ended.
Some people might have a better deal but for me it was reasonable:j[0 -
My sky was cut off first of Feb. They called previously and offered me 35% off. But I said no.
No more calls and no letters. Only thing I miss really is being able to pause/rewind live TV. But I'll no doubt get used to it.Sigless0 -

If I dont set the phone to cancel, Im guessing I wont get any offers during the cancellation period?
If it does cancel on the cancellation date, is it as simple as a "flick of the switch" to turn it back on? I cant really be without broadband for very long as use it for work.
If Sky dont offer me a deal, I've already worked out Virgin Media is gonna be a decent deal but there cash discount runs out this week so I'd need to sign up before then.... not sure what best thing to do is gonna be! Hold out for Sky or go for Virgin Media....
Virgin Media with TCB, Cash discount & free Netflix for 6 months saves me £280 alone :eek:0 -

It doesn't sound as if you can actually afford to cancel completely , though, so I think you'd be better off simply going to another supplier for a cheaper deal.0
