Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

I pay the sky for my mum's home- easier for me to deal with it. She has entetainment extra, unlimited broadband and their basic telephone package. She was on a 12 month deal for £28.25 for all three over this period (prior to their sneaking up the prices for tv and phone last year).
This is due to end on 14 Feb so my last bill (billing in advance) was for over £42. I think after that it will be £23.50 for TV, £7.50 for internet and £15.40 for phoneline.
I called up last week and retentions offered nothing so gave notice to cancel.
Tried again last night. Was only offered a discount to bring it down to £37 i think. This is as the phone line is discounted to half price.
Wasn't happy so said no thanks. Was then told that cancellation would be 31 days from this date and there was no record of the cancellation proceeding the previous week as the call had ended before this had been arranged.
The issue I have is that my mum doesn't want to lose her phone line (and i think it is needed for the alarm system she has).
If I wait till cancellation has been effected will they reinstate the phone as well as all other things with the original number or can they only reinstate the TV package and not the phone number once it has been disconnected?
Also has anyone managed to get any better deal on this package. I would probably accept £23.50 for the TV and £7.70 for the phone line and internet. Is this reasonable.Mark Hughes' blue and white army0 -

- Sky Talk Weekends
Been offered the same but for £36 a month which seems good to me and don't think I could do any better as we're not exactly high spending customers.
Does anyone know if there have been any offers floating about for adding Sky Sports??
Did you take this offer- if so how was it broken down? I presume it is the phone line which is cut and also half price internet?Mark Hughes' blue and white army0 -

After 17 years we have left Sky. I called to cancel and they made no effort to keep us, not even an offer of reduced prices for 6 months. I stated that it was too expensive and no longer value for money.
We are now saving £500 a year by using Freesat and TalkTalk for phones and broadband. Not missing any Sky channels but if we do then they cost £5 per month from Now TV or TalkTalk. Can't believe we stayed so long.
I intended to cancel Sky a year ago but Sky persuaded me to stay with a saving of £100 on bringing line rental to Sky so we decided to stay. That was a BAD move! Saved £100 by staying but could have save £500 by leaving! Doh! I won't make that mistake again!0 -
I'm coming up to the end of my 12month 50% off deal from last years MSE code. Called up customer services to see if they can do anything for me first but the guy said as I already had a deal applied they couldn't do anything at the moment and I should call back about 5 days before my contract is up.
That means they will get a full month at top dollar from me, that isn't right is it?
Should I call back and put my cancellation through?0 -

Not the best but its in partners name so I can't ring up for him...got £10 off a £70 bill (Or half price on sky sports to be exact as we have entertainment +, sky sports and broadband/line rental)
Every little helps.People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
I currently pay £49.90 for entertainment plus, broadband and line. Been with them for TV nearly 2 years and 10 months for phone and internet. They offered me a £7 discount on phone if I take out a new 12 months and keep TV.
I really want to cut costs of TV. Was hoping to add entertainment extra plus and pay £15.
Is this realistic? How long should I wait before trying again?
Thanks
Anyone?
Thanks0 -

As this thread indicates (over and over), the best deals are only offered to those who cancel their services. You've been offered a £7 reduction on your bill (so well done) but if you hope to receive more you'll have to cancel. There are no guarantees.0 -
