Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

I phoned up Sky yesterday to give them 31 days notice to cancel my sports pack (£20 per month). I tend to watch the football mainly so cancel to correspond with the end of the season. They offered me a £15 per month reduction for 4 months, ie £5 per month for Sky Sports. Thought this was a decent offer and I didn't have to try hard to get it. I think Sky have a lot of customers cancel at the end of the footy season and so have this offer in place to keep numbers up.
Right, just off to brush up on the rules of cricket!!0 -
I hate the way it seems to be a lottery - I have Sky everything - Sports, Movies, HD, phone, broadband, paying £73.50 a month. Thought I would try downgrading my package - put through to downgrades and they happily downgraded to basic TV package (no HD) without any offer of discounts.
I will put it back on when the footie season starts again, but will miss movies over the Summer. I'll save about £125, but would rather have had the discounts.0 -

Yeah, but the beauty is that you can easily upgrade now online and just choose the bits you want.0 -
I was previously on that dodgy friends and family deal for 12 months that ran out a month or so ago, they offered 6 months at 50% off but wouldn't alter the package I had to cancel sports and movies so I canned it, I knew they could do better.
and well I never, through the post this morning is a 12 months 50% off tv deal(not off HD pack though). As always with Sky disloyalty pays.0 -
Just tried haggling with VMedia over my package. I made a bit of a pigs ear of it and got very flustered! my ears are still burning.. ha ha
Basically didnt get anything.
I started off my removing sky sports and movies and reducing the bill down to 55.99 p/m. which gives me:
m broadband
xl tv
anytime minutes
v+ box
standard box multi room.
I then called back to cancellations saying i begrudged paying that amount when all I really want is Sky sports and Movies for a similar price, and they said they couldnt do anything. This is where I planned to cancel the package and sit it out for a couple of weeks and await a hopeful callback, but i caved and removed my anytime mins to evenings and weekends, reducing the bill to £49 p/m
Its still good to be saving on what I was paying, just disappointed not to have stuck with my plan! never mind. may call back tomorrow or later with a "ive been thinking and still want to cancel" call.:o0 -

Just done the same thing, did it last year as well.
Saves a few quid and also saves having to call them again once the footy season restarts.0 -
We have had 50% off a 2 mix package for 12 months now. It has now ended. Anyone phoned up after a discounted period and been offered another one? Not really wanting to pay full whack as most of the shows we watch are ending soon anyway.0

Could anyone explain what exactly the 50% is coming off? Is it the total cost of my TV package? Does it include multiroom and HD etc?
Has anyone tried getting 25% off for 12 months? It would work out the same amount saved and I'd prefer to apy the same amount over the 12 month period.0 -
Is there a limit on the number of deals you can be offered? I've just come to the end of a discounted 6 month half-price deal and rang Sky to see if there was anything available. I was told that, as I've had a number of deals over the past few years, I wasn't eligible for anymore. Is this the case, or does it depend on who you speak to?
Thanks.0 -

It seems to vary; usually off everything apart from hd and multiroom. However, some people get it off everything.0
