Maybe they have started reading this thread ;)

So if you cancel, you obviously get to keep the box-you can't record the TV on the normal "free" channels then?

Anyone know how you can tell if the discount they offer has been applied? When I log in to my account online I can't see it anywhere?

She never said she was going to threaten to leave;merely attempt to make some further savings.

It's unlikely that sky will do anything spectacular, but you never know what savings will be available in 6 months.

What incentive will Sky have, to offer a discount after six months?
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

Although you can get the Freesat chanels, you have to have an active account with Sky to enjoy the Sky+ features.

VM don't have a separate HD charge (Sky charge £10.25 a month). So the above charges are the only charges you will pay with VM to receive HD content for your new TV. However the HD content on VM is limited whereas for the charge Sky apply your HD content is comprehensive and you won't get that level of HD from anywhere else in the UK.

Sky can get the Sky+HD box to you for free and will install for free too as they then receive the £10.25 fee from you.

VM do however chare 7 pounds a month for sky sports 1 and 2 in HD and some of teh sky movies amounts to about 10 chanels extra for 7 pounds or 55 for 10.25

They could sign her into a new 12 month contract...

They also often have offers on to get current customers to add extra channels or hd etc etc

Phoned up there, just finished my 12 month contract for my current sky HD box, offered 50% off for 6 months straight away, no hassle
  • Just called to cancel TV, keeping phone and broadband with them. Retention offered 50% off my existing TV package (just the basic channels) effective immediately, and not for a fixed term - many seem to get just 6 or 12 months. The guy said it was a new deal from today - might be worth a try! :)

I have the world tv pack +hd, today they have offered me half price, but had to pay £10 for HD ( no 1/2 price offer on HD).
I will now pay £36.25 in total . (The full price is £62.50)
  • I've been with Virgin for nearly three years and in that time prices have been creeping up to the point I was paying £54.99 for:
    XL TV
    L Broadband
M phone with evenings and weekends.

I phoned to cancel and got a few offers but was not happy with them so said no thanks I'm going to leave.
    Date set for 29th April.
I have since received a phone call from Virgin trying to get me to stay.
I basically asked for the same as I have for a fixed price for the duration of the 12 Month contract of £30 per month and got it no problem.
It's certainly worth playing hardball and do not accept the initial offers from the Disconnections dept.
There are much better deals to be had if you sweat it out !
