  • There is no timescale and 50% or 75% offers are rare.

    Are they rare?

I accepted a 50% off offer a couple of days ago - there were about 10 days left until my cancellation came into effect...

I think 50% comes up often.

Theres no rush. If it doesnt come up ill just sign my partner up as its a different name when the next 50% offer pops up soon.

She may have a different name, but it's the same address as the one you just cancelled from less than a year ago. Are you going to fraudulently claim to be new customers?
I'm not sure of the wisdom of such a move...

I called and cancelled Sky today - 34 minutes to do so - the agent was quite frankly full of lies about Virgin Media - she was on a hiding to nothing as I am already a customer of VM, as their fiber product is hard to beat.

Struggling to extract a deal out of VM but working on it :)

My sky friend & family 50% off discount ends next month so just rang up to cancel. The call centre couldn't offer me anything at all so just went ahead. I'm not fussed enough about TV to pay £36 a month for it. If they do eventually call me and offer me 50% off again I'll take it but otherwise no.

On the other side our broadband (Virgin Media) needs sorting. Realised we're paying £24 a month for it and only have 20MB where as new customers get 30MB for £22.50 a month! But it's in my partner's name so need to get him to ring up and sort that out later.

Having cancelled last Sunday I got a call from Sky last night. They offered me the same small discount as when I phoned to cancel. I stuck to my guns and turned it down, so I very much doubt I'll be getting a further call. Really not fussed.

The dilemma I keep facing as a Sky customer is that I'm only really interested in the Sport and Movies. Unfortunately for Sky I'm not willing to pay £50+ a month to watch them. When I've not got sport and movies, Sky is as good as useless to me as we're mainly watching freeview channels, but paying nearly £40 for the privilege. I got multi-room so I could watch football when the wife was watching something, so the multi-room is also as good as defunct without sport.
  • After 5 or 6 years of 50% discount offers I cancelled in January with no new offer forthcoming - didn't really miss it but kept the Sky+ box running as a basic freesat box - in truth we are gradually moving to watching more and more streamed and downloaded tv. About 3 months ago Sky rang with a 50% off offer but I refused for reasons stated here. Yesterday they rang again - 75% off any package for next 12 months with no contract - entertainment plus movies plus sport for £12.87 pm - well at that price I thought it would be rude not to - just shows how much profit they are making at full price - in 12 months time we will cancel and most probably replace the ageing sky box with a you view box or some such. Another example of why it doesn't benefit to 'set your heart' on anything nowadays - be patient and never ever be a loyal customer as eventually this loyalty will be abused.

Have been with VM for many years but after a long spate of PPI calls and the fact we use our mobiles more phoned up to see what they could offer.
The current package was 1TB Tivo, TV XL, XXL BB & M phone for £69pm.
After nearly 10mins on the phone nothing was forthcoming. He tried to lower the package I was on, even said that I should keep the phone line and just keep it unplugged  Why should I pay £15 for something that's unplugged.

So told them to withdraw everything except BB and then to drop that to 60Mb for £22.50.
Was then going to Sky via TCB but enquired with the online chat team to make sure I did nit a phone line for install. This was confirmed and then the magic words arrived, I have a deal for you..

Complete package 50% off for 9 months and £25 M&S voucher.
Only thing I tried was to better the deal on the 2Tb box at £149 bit movement on that.

So Sky being installed 1st Dec :)

  • Having phoned Sky back in August as we were paying £93 a month, we got no offers and decided to cancel, giving 30 days notice, we waited until the day of cancelling and still no offers so we dropped down to the basic package of £21.50/month, cancelled phone line & broadband. They have just phoned and offered us all the movies and sport packs for £10 extra per month with no contract lock in for 12 months.

We changed our line rental & broadband to EE and so far it has been OK, with a decent line speed, this has been a bargain at £132/year for line rental with £126 cashback (cashback already been paid) plus unlimited broadband for £2.50/ month.

So in total we are now saving £702 per year and all for a few hours work.
