Is streaming Sky Movies via Now TV ( a Sky brand) a potential solution for you?

    Now TV Box £9.99
Sky Movies 30 day free trial available, then £8.99 per month (no commitment)
....and possible cashback if you go via cashback sites as well!

See the thread discussing the Now TV box at:
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4804082

The Now TV box can also be purchased with a 3 month movies pass (£24.99 for box + 3 months movies pass) from several well-known retailers.

Oooh thanks will look at that

I`m wondering if you think we might be able to tweek our Virgin package a little (we have been with them forever - since they were Telewest) and havn`t done anything about out our price for many years.

This is what we currently have:
    Talk unlimited
    XL TV
    Broadband M (upto 20MB)
    Loyalty pack for the BB/Phone/TVC)
    All this comes to £39.15
Plus the phone line £14.99 - total £54.14 a month

We do not have a Tivo box and are still using a very reliable V+ box. Would like a Tivo box but see you have to pay another £5 a month for the pleasure of this.

Do you think our package is reasonable and would you know if we could get the V+ box changed over to Tivo (but I would prefer not to have to pay extra each month for one).

    Many thanks
  • Cancelled Sky full package 2 weeks ago and was not offered anything at the time of cancelling.
Started to crack and decided to phone up and see what they could offer. I was told everything had already been cancelled and I would not have received a call offering me anything... but as i had phoned they would see what they could do ;)

    We currently pay £92
Sky unlimited calls and phone line
    Sky unlimited broadband
    Sky go extra
    Full tv package
    Hd and 3d
    Sky sports
    Sky movies

Offered all the above for £58 for this month and £73 for remaining 11 months contract :)

So really happy I phoned back. Im sure others will get cheaper deals but Im happy with what i got offered.

    Happy haggling

Just had yet another letter from Virgin informing me of the forthcoming price increase, incidentally, with the first opening paragraph an exact copy from last year's letter which I still have - makes you wonder how often they they increase prices if there is a set letter template for it!

Anyway, last year I rang up to haggle stating I couldn't justify paying £48/month for what I was getting & actually using. I was on L TV (for a a couple of the documentary & comedy channels only) and the basic broadband, but because I didn't have a phone line they couldn't help me. In the end I took a phone line to get a deal after they promised a loyalty discount that meant I wouldn't pay any more in total although line rental would appear on my bill. Shortly after this, they put their price up again to £52.

Now the latest increase comes at the same time my loyalty discount is due to expire, so I am facing something like a £9-10 increase to something around the £60/month mark for L TV, M BB, Tivo a second basic box in the bedroom and a phone line that is never used.

Getting cheesed off with existing customers subsidising new customers, I went to the website and had an online chat with an advisor and told them I didn't want the phone line and could I have just TV & BB. The reply was I could have 30mb BB and M+ TV for £41/month but there would be a £50 installation charge. Eh ???

I queried this installation charge which they said was for Tivo, but I then pointed out I already had a working Tivo box so how can they charge me for installation on somethign I already have. Their reply - we'll drop the installation charge if you take a phone line. Which bit of VFM do they not get? Why would I pay for a second year of having a phone line I haven't used once in the first year? And how on earth can you charge someone installation for a product they already have? Can they do that? Clearly they think they can and that people will be stupid enough to pay.

I'll give Retentions one chance and then I'm off to Sky or BT. Virgin no longer has a monopoly on fibre broadband - they need to wake up and realise there is now some real competition out there. I would be very interested though on peoples' opinions on charging installation fees for something you already have!

Well phoned twice today and all I got was 50% off tv. i wanted 75% or 50 and a new box or 4 month free trial. free trial would have seen out footie season and id be ripe for a broadband deal when my talktalk runs out on aug 1st. is it me or are they really aggressive nowadays. Didnt help by asking them whos decision was it to charge for channel5 hd them or ch 5.
he wouldnt even check mailshots open. ho hum well another phonecall to do that then the 1 month cancellation merrygoround again.
has anyone got 75% off for ayear after having 75% off year before just a thought.

I managed to get another year of 75% off and they also added a new sky+ box and HD package which was included into the 75% discount.

Cancelled sky which stopped on 31st Dec 2012, Phone call March 2013 offering 6 months full package for £10 month .This is the full package
Cancelled sky again just before this 6 month deal came to an end and one month later ,call with same offer for another 6 months !
TBH I can live without it , we have a smart TV and the kids have grown up.
I was honest and I told them this, but for £10 a month I am happy to stay as I can record the Emmerdale omnibus and annoy my husband by watching the whole thing in one go while skipping the adverts.
    ;)

That's more like it,I just hope that they contact me with a great offer like that as there is no way I can afford to pay £63 a month for entertainment extra and my broadband and phone calls.

I cancelled my Sky subscription yesterday. It officially ends on 3 Jan. If they ring with an offer, I'll consider it, but to be honest it'd have to be a belter.

I was paying £38 for multi-room and the entertainment package - no sport, no movies and no HD. When I first signed up to Sky the full price of the full package wasn't much more than £40-45. I cancelled sports, movies and HD in September because a few offers I had expired and my bill was getting nearer to £80 a month.

For all the haggling etc the cost of cable/satellite TV has gotten ridiculous. I wouldn't mind, but in paying £20+ a month for Sky Sports, I was only watching football. I'd be interested to know if Sky had ever considered a football only package, although I suspect it's the football we're really paying for.

Anyway, if I don't get an offer I think I'll just buy a Smart TV and take Netflix out for £5 a month. I suspect I won't miss Sky half as much as they hope I will.
