To all Virgin Media users... If you are at the end of your contract and are fed up with Virgin for letting you down by not giving you as good an offer than their new customers... cancel you contract and just change the name on it! for us all we had to do is go from Mr to Mrs X, saving a nice swift £90 and gaining a TIVO box!0

Hi Guys
I couldnt find a direct answer to my question so had to post a new thread
In short, I currently have..
-- Sky package half price at £34 expiring 28th Nov
-- ADSL via Plusnet at £5 a month - out of contract
-- Add in line rental of 9.5 pm, TOTAL = £48.50 p/m
I'd like to..
-- Keep Sky at half price
-- Get Fibre broadband, preferably not paying more than £10 a month for it
As usual, I've called Sky and the best they can offer me today (7th Nov) is 20% off the Sky TV and 6 months free Fibre (basically £10 a month for a year).
Add in Line rental (£132 paid up front = £11.60 a month), and the total is £76 - more than I'd like to pay
In terms of timing, should I call them again ON the 28th when the contract has expired and hope to get a better deal? The Sky person I spoke to hinted that but I want to ensure my timing is right
I've considered Fibre with other providers, but alas, it's usually an 18month contract which would put my internet and Sky deal (12 month) out of sync
Any advice appreciated!
Cheers, GM0 -

They may just allow you to cancel, they may not. It's not an exact science...
Thanks for that.
Should I cancel the whole lot and in the event they don't offer any discount... If I do decide to re-connect am I liable for another 12 month contract and / or re-connection fees?
It would interesting to learn of other MSE members experience of this when their 50% off expired.0 -

I done some calculations last night based on retention deal vs cancelling and getting another family member to sign up. Over the 18mths, the retention deal saved me 6 quid. Maybe Virgin are getting wise now......0 -

Very odd that "Souvina" was able to sign up as a new customer at her existing property since this is fraudulent activity against the terms and conditions of the contract. It's especially suspicious since even her surname is the same as the "previous" customer at that address.
Signing up as another family member is not recommended..0 -

I thought the same. That's why I never broached doing it.0 -
Father in law rang up today he is paying £66 for Sky HD, Multiroom, Phone and BB.
Got offered 1/2 price BB, Line Rental and Multiroom at £50 p/m
Considering he was paying less than £30 a month ago he's cancelled.
Will he expect a call or two from Sky before the cut off?

I cancelled last week and I had a call a few days later to do a survey, they tried to offer me a cheaper deal then. I've declined as we're moving and we're going to take a new subscription out in my partners name.
Are there any good deals for new customers at the moment? It will be just for tv.:j little fire cracker born 5th November 2012 :j0 -

Best deal I can find at the moment is the half-price Groupon deal.
It covers all the packages except for the "Complete Bundle" (which is, of course, the one I want).
It costs £9 to buy the deal, but you get that refunded on your first month.
I'm going to phone them today, but I don't hold out much hope - it's Chrimbo coming up and they don't usually have any trouble getting new customers.
Scrub that. The Groupon deal runs out on Nov 14th, but no longer available it appears. The smaller the monkey the more it looks like it would kill you at the first given opportunity.

Hang on in there ! Cancelled sky (no offers given) and it went off on 23/10/13. Got a call today offering 75% off tv packages. Got the whole package including movies, sport, multiroom and hd for £32 per month. The 75% off does not include multiroom & Hd. Considering that is less than half price from what I was paying I call that a good result. 12 month deal with no tie-in.0
