I rang Sky yesterday to try and negotiate a better deal. We currently take TV, phone line and Bband with them and we're out of contract. Current monthly bill is £54.

Sky there and then offered to reduce the bill to £40 pm for the next 12 months, which would tie us into another 12 month contract.

I politely declined and put our entire account on 31 days notice. They didn't make any improved offer at that stage, but I guess we'll see if they come back and improve the offer nearer to the final cut-off.

Last year I called them for my MAC code as I was going to move our bband. They then cut our line rental to £1 a month, so we stayed. Maybe they will view us as perennial price-tarts, and decide they can live without us!!
Yes, retention offers are not limitless. You can expect Sky to let you cancel this time.

In the end we didn't get an opportunity to test this out. I wanted to let the notice period run down to the last day to see if Sky would contact us with a better offer, but as we were going to be abroad on that date, I didn't want to risk coming home to no TV, Bband and phone! So we blinked first and phoned Sky back to take their previous offer.

This is still an improvement on what we had. We're reduced our monthly bill from £54 to £40 Includes unltd bband, line rental, HD entertainment, + the Sky 3D channel. In return, we're locked in for another 12 months.

Not the discount I was hoping for, but better than a kick in the nuts.

I wonder if Sky Sports will drop in price once they lose all Champions League matches to BT in 2015...

Hang on in there ! Cancelled sky (no offers given) and it went off on 23/10/13. Got a call today offering 75% off tv packages. Got the whole package including movies, sport, multiroom and hd for £32 per month. The 75% off does not include multiroom & Hd. Considering that is less than half price from what I was paying I call that a good result. 12 month deal with no tie-in. :)

    good work!

I think the key is clearly to let the contract expire and go from there

they wont 'cut you off' when the contract lapses - you'll just switch to the full price deal... so.. dont let it linger too long
  • This is what's odd though - I don't have a contract with them. In fact, I would have thought that as I have broadband with them, they would want me as a customer!

The best they can offer me is 10% off. That's rubbish and I told them so.

They are losing customers hand-over-fist to Talktalk, BT and Virgin and yet they have no interest in a potential new customer. Other than the phone, I have had no relationship with Sky for nearly 10 years.
The smaller the monkey the more it looks like it would kill you at the first given opportunity.
  • Just to add my 2 cents.

I just signed my Wife up to Virgin Media's Premier Collection, which currently puts £100 in your account, plus using Top Cashback I got £169, as well as 6 months half price!

I'm an existing Virgin media subscriber (Phone and BB Only) as I've always had Sky.

Yesterday I received a phone call to tell me that someone was trying to move into my house, and they wanted to confirm what was happening. I told them honestly that I would like to cancel my own BB & Phone and have my Wife sign up as a new member, because the discounts available to me are no comparison to a new member deal.

They checked with their colleagues and confirmed all was OK. They've arranged to cancel my broadband the day before the new install.

    Fingers crossed all goes well!

I have just moved to a new house, Looking for 2 HD boxes multi room with record + movies/sports with BB/Phone. Sky offered £77, and virgin offered £74.24 for 6 months then £97.24 after that, thought Virgin were meant to be cheaper?

Told them I would leave it for now. Is this a good offer? Sky seems the best bet......

Depends on the broadband Virgin were offering at that price. Sky is better in terms of TV channels, but Virgin is offering internet speeds Sky can only dream of currently. Do a proper comparison, like-for-like.

Hi all. My 12-month contract with VM is up next month. I'm on M BB (30mb) and phone with 0845/0870 calls free. I currently have an £8 loyalty bonus.

I've had some issues with the BB dropping out, especially the past 6 months which is costly as I work from home. Anyway, does anyone know if the loyalty bonus will end or do I need to phone and ask for it to be extended?

To be honest, if they don't agree to the same deal I'm on now (£10.15 a month - line rental of £120 paid in full last December) I'd be happy to jump ship and look at BT/Sky, especially with the news of the fee rising next year. Is it a case of telling them I'm going to cancel, they'll continue with the same deal I'm on currently or do they not really care much about customer loyalty so much?

    Thanks for any assistance.

About time I rang up Virgin for some more haggling as my previous discount has expired.

Any suggestions for what price I should target for my current deal of 60mb Broadband, M+ TV with Tivo, and M phone?

    I'm currently paying £48.74.

I agree with the multi room not being discounted (but working on that lol)

When i got my new deal of 75% off i got as new HD+ box as i had never had one before. I phone the next day to see if i couldget half price HD deal and i was told NO as i already had the 75% discount, then she offered to add it to my excisting offer and told me it was only an extra £1.25 per month for HD pacjakge.

So now i get Phone, BB unlimited calls including 10 abroad numbers ( Bros in Law in US) Sports movies Hd pack etc for £35 odd a month.
