The only problem with that is, if you do actually cancel your package, most companies will not let you sign back up as a new customer for a minimum period. Usually something like 3 months.
So in the meantime, if you want to keep your services, you are going to have to join another provider and sign up to a contract with them.
Thats the point i am making, i just cancelled the TV package so still had phone and Broadband for the missing months.
The only addition was Broadband went from £7.50 to £10.00 per month because we didnt have a TV package.
So basicaly 3-4 mopths with no SKY TV now I save £53.50 per month as my total TV package is £15.50 for the everything including HD.0 -

Yes I understand, it is just that you said cancel altogether, not cancel just the tv section of your package.
Anyway, it is a good deal and good tactics for people to use if they have Sky, are out of contract and want a better deal.0 -
Coming to the end of my 75% off 9 month deal and phoned yesterday to cancel, offered 50% off but told them it wasn't worth it as the wife watches the free channels and all those reality crap TV channels.
Could not take any more of whatever rubbish TLC puts on, be glad to be rid of it.0 -
Well my service went off on Monday, still waiting for a call or post offer... Anyone got an idea when the mail offers start arriving?

Yes but this a really bad idea as it shows you are bluffer who cannot go without sky. Future deals and discounts will be hard to get as they will think you are not really going to cancel.
I have read this thread quite a lot and the information buried in here thats is the best advise is this.
If Cancelling in order to obtain a discount you have to be prepared to go through with it and possibly be without sky for a while. What ever happens you have got to hold your nerve and make Sky blink first.
This means they have to contact you first. If you try ringing them up just before the cancellation is due they will think you are wavering and not really going to cancel.
I was with Sky for best part of 14 years with only a few offers of Sports discounted for 6 months in that time.
In 2012 i followed the advice on here and cancelled stating i could no longer afford the subscription. I had really nice chat with a member of staff who could only offer to remove some packages to lower the bill. I politely declined and handed in my 31 days notice.
I was switched off on the correct day with no contact from sky.
Around 3 weeks later a letter arrived offering 50% for 12 months. I was on the phone and sky reinstated within 10 mins.
This year i expected to go through the whole thing again, but when i rang up to cancel i was instantly offered another 12 months at 50% off on the telephone.
Advice for going SKY cold turkey- sign up for Netflix. You will find loads and loads of great stuff free for a month. Also try to land your cancellation date on the first day of your holiday in the summer. Most series are not on in the summer months so you should not miss much and the football is also on break as well.
If Netflix can offer such a huge amount of content for just £6 a month then there is no way sky is going to be able to keep charging premium rates for ever.0 -
Got a phone call today after cancelling offering me the Ent. extra for £20 per month, a massive £7 per month saving. told him that the day i cancelled i was offered 50% discount and didn't take it.
He was shocked at that and said "i won't waste any more of your time then"0
