Hi all
Looking for some advice.
I joined Sky a little under a year ago on a half price deal (that I got through this website). I think I pay £26.50 p/m for the basic TV package and Sky Sports.
What chance do I have of keeping this deal at the end of the year? Also, I am looking for a new BB provider as I don't like TalkTalk. Would Sky be inclined to give me a better deal if I offer to move my phone and BB over to them too?0 -

Call them up and see what they will do on the TV then mention that you want to move your phone and BB over as well.0 -
I am in the process of trying to get a better deal for my parents, they have currently have:
Your package

Your package total
£63.14
Which is basically the premier collection, but with 20mb broadband and an old hub, instead of 60mb bb and a new hub.
I rang and was offered current deal for £57.99 pm, nothing else. Put in for cancellation.
The person I was speaking to made out that I was in the wrong for expecting the same deal as a new customer.
Currently they are offering Premier collection for £48 pm (half price for 6 months) plus £14.99 line rental, but yesterday they also had an extra £100 knocked off too.
What is the best deal I should expect or be aiming for?
I have called today as I cannot afford to keep this package.
They have offered a free installation of the TIVO box, keep the HD+ and the other set top box, upgrade from 20mb to 30mb, same talk weekend phone package BUT, reduce TV channels to their basic starter collection for £45.99
My problem is that I don't have any sort of aerial in my house, so the only way I can get freeview (which is built into my TV's) is by using a rather unsightly fan type aerial.
So, ideally I want to keep the boxes, but feel that paying £20 for the privilege is too much. (I figure £15 phone, £10 internet, leaving £20 for use of 3 x boxes)
One of the boxes in hardly ever used, but when I asked how much I would save by removing one box, I was told no saving at all as I would lose my loyalty discount!
Apparently, the disconnections team don't work on Sundays, but I will call tomorrow to see what they can suggest.

Yes, but being out of contract, if they want to keep me they have to do something to entice me to stay.
If that isn't matching what they offer a new customer, then IMO, there is no incentive to stay.
Isn't that the whole point of MSE, saving money, getting a better deal, rather than just accepting the first thing offered and believing it is the best they will or can offer?0 -

Personally I think getting an aerial installed and buying a pvr is a better idea. Say £200 spent, would be paid for in 6-12 months in what you spend on tv.
The basic tv package on virgin is basically freeview anyway. The premier collection has ESPN and BT sports, but I still wouldn't pay £40 a month for it. I used to, but wouldn't again.
I have tried to get my dad to dump the tv on his package, but he wants to keep it.0 -

Yes, but being out of contract, if they want to keep me they have to do something to entice me to stay.
As I said, if everyone paid less all the time, then how could they offer a discount to new customers? If they offered a further discount to new customers then you'd want that price too, I suppose? Your sense of entitlement staggers me!0 -

It is something to aim for. If one person can get it at that price, others can too.
That is the deal I got by asking for it.
If they followed your advice they would just accept what Virgin told them and pay twice as much for the same package.Moneyineptitude wrote: »As I said, if everyone paid less all the time, then how could they offer a discount to new customers? If they can offer a deal to entice a new customer, they can offer the same deal to keep a customer who is no longer in contract. It depends if they want to keep a customer or lose that customer to a competitor.
I would not expect anything more or less when a contract has been agreed, but when you are out of contract, it is a different matter.0
