So sometimes its worth cancelling altogether and see what they offer you
The only problem with that is, if you do actually cancel your package, most companies will not let you sign back up as a new customer for a minimum period. Usually something like 3 months.
So in the meantime, if you want to keep your services, you are going to have to join another provider and sign up to a contract with them.0 -

Really?
Nightmare!
The operative did not mention anything like that.
I best give them a call later although the local exchange was down earlier... typical.0 -

Regardless, the idea is to cancel in the hope that the supplier will offer a deal to return which is superior to any offered to stay. As this thread shows, Sky do routinely send recently cancelled customers attractive inducements to return.0 -

You are very precise and dismissive of my 3 months estimation, but do you have any documentation of it being 12 months or more?
I spoke to Virgin retentions as recently as Saturday and was specifically told 3 months.Moneyineptitude wrote: »Regardless, the idea is to cancel in the hope that the supplier will offer a deal to return which is superior to any offered to stay. I didn't question that.
What I was saying is, it is no good if you want to keep your services.
If you cancel altogether, you are going to have to sign up with somebody else in the mean time, so you still have internet, telephone, etc.
So if Sky ring up 1, 2, 3 months after you have cancelled, what good is that if you have gone to Virgin in the meantime on a 12 month contract?0 -
i dont think virgin are bothered with me leaving i said i could get a better deal with sky they just said they couldnt match it and i gave my noticeWhat goes around-comes around0

New customer offers are only available to those who have left for a year or more, I imagine by then though that the former customer will be content with Freesat-From-Sky.
All this is moot, of course, if the cancelling customer has triple play from Sky, in which case (as you say) a postal flyer from Sky will be too late if the customer goes to another supplier for telephony and broadband.0 -
Had a missed call from Virgin Telemarketing yesterday so rang the number on the message.
They said they couldn't put me through as it was just outbound etc
The advisor then started the ask me why I was leaving etc
He said I was at the top of the loyalty bonus, i think I get £11 off and he sees the same offers that telemarketing would see.
Offered to reduce services again rather than any other offers. I found it strange that TM had rang me (I know its automated etc) but if they had the same offers then it would be a wasted conversation.
Going to hold off and see if I get another phonecall and see if what TM offer and the advisor I spoke to last night are saying is the same.0 -

Either provide some documentary evidence of your three month statement or go to Sky's website and check the terms and conditions yourself!:D
Why would people leave Sky and go to Virgin if they simply want to pay less for Sky? Most who want a reduction will simply keep watching the free TV offering on their existing Sky equipment rather than go to another supplier.

I asked for your evidence because you are giving false information and misleading advice. It is you who needs to provide evidence as you say 3 months is wrong, 12 months is right, so prove it.
I also notice how you have deliberately only commented on sky in this comment, where as before you were commenting on virgin too.
I notice how you also only comment on a specific service being tv, when everybody else seems to be discussing their full package with their provider.0 -

Untrue and inaccurate, as it is 3 months with Virgin.
Stop misleading people with false information.
Somebody might actually follow what you are saying and decide to stick with a service provider if they think that they cannot sign back up for another 12 months, when it is simply not true, with Virgin anyway.
You don't know what you are talking about and have just posted what you think is right.0
