Sky, Virgin & BT TV Haggle down prices and get serious discounts Article Discussion

The money-saving approach is to go to the websites of the suppliers and compare the package prices and special offers currently available. There will already be offers available for new customers, but these are perfectly transparent and there is no need to "haggle". When you decide which one is best for you, you can either ring them up to order or simply order online. There is no need to obtain "quotes", the prices are all online.I have trawled through all the posts but could anyone give me a guide how best to approach
Do note that three boxes will involve two Multi-Room subscriptions of around £10 for each-so the costs are likely to be in excess of the £70-£80 a month you estimate.0 -
O2 customers can access Sky via the O2 Freephone number, but I don't know whether this will work for others, as , perhaps, the staff contacted are dedicated to O2 customer migrations.0

Thanks for the tel no Dragon Q - that worked.:j
Thanks for the advice moneyineptitude, so really the discount available to a first time customer is the best I am going to get, sorry I didn't realise I thought you just carried on haggling. I looked online but didn't seem able to get a price for multi-room, not for Virgin anyway. Didn't realise I would need 2 subscriptions either, may have to rethink that one.
For anyone else looking at the moment, this was the price from Sky as a first time customer, which included all the above I posted - £60.75 for 1st 6 months, then £70.75 for next 6 months....with £54 installation on top.
Many, many thanks for the replies, I'll try Virgin next and post back to help others.0 -
Just rang Virgin to see what they could offer me in the way of money saving and spoke to a lovely person on the phone, unfortunately all she could offer me is as follows:
Move me up from 20mb to 30mb broadband (free of charge)
Move me up from 20mb to 60mb broadband (£1 less than paying now)
Move me down from XL TV to M+ (saving £10 per month)
Remove one of the boxes I have on a shelf (saving me no cash)
They said they couldnt match what Sky is offering at the moment and was sorry as been with them for 13 years or so.
I put in my cancellation and wait to see if I get a call back.....0 -
Don't forget if you're "cancelling" shortly, use the "I'm a British Gas customer and my bills are going up 9.2% so my Sky gets it" sob story.Mortgage free I: 8th December 2009!
Mortgage free II: New Year's Eve 2013!

Which is basically the premier collection, but with 20mb broadband and an old hub, instead of 60mb bb and a new hub.
I rang and was offered current deal for £57.99 pm, nothing else. Put in for cancellation.
The person I was speaking to made out that I was in the wrong for expecting the same deal as a new customer.
Currently they are offering Premier collection for £48 pm (half price for 6 months) plus £14.99 line rental, but yesterday they also had an extra £100 knocked off too.
What is the best deal I should expect or be aiming for?

Good luck with Virgin...they wouldnt budge yesterday.0

^ I know, the person I spoke to yesterday was very rude and patronising.
It is poor that you even have to play this game just to get a decent price from them.
If they just advertised and offered the best price to everybody, they would probably have a lot more customers.0 -
But you are wrong for expecting that! All suppliers offer deals to entice new customers, but if everyone paid the reduced rates all the time then there would be no incentive for new customers! The person I was speaking to made out that I was in the wrong for expecting the same deal as a new customer.0
