Surely free tv for 6 months, then at full price for 6 months, is the same as half price for the year ?
Only if it comes with a 12 month contract. ;)

^^^^ oh and added to above.....

We had a sky+ box and it stopped working yesterday.

We phoned sky and they informed us they no longer do sky+ boxes and its just hd boxes.

My other half assumed this would cost, but without having to haggle sky are coming out to install an hd box, box and installation totally free!

And probably has locked you into a new 12 month contract.
  • I actually think you'll struggle to get a better Broadband service than Virgin. If you are truly experiencing problems uploading "massive files to clients", then you need a business connection not another supplier.
I do agree telephone services from Virgin are expensive and their TV offering is second rate compared to Sky.

Astonishingly wrong, multiple times. Virgin is well known for being a 'budget' quality provider (sacrificing good customer support and connection quality for headline download speeds and STM) - if you are a photographer, you will want a stable connection with a good chunk of upload capacity. FTTC meets these needs perfectly, and there are loads of providers to choose from (BT, Plusnet, Zen, Talk Talk, Sky, etc).

You only need a business line if your business is critically dependent on it, and needs 24/7 support with short response times.

I disagree entirely, none of the alternatives you suggested offer any better than Virgin and many a lot worse.
If the OP is using domestic broadband for his business needs then he has only himself to blame if the service is not up to the job...

Just found this thread, rang yesterday (29th) as I wanted to move my phone and upgrade to Fibre, got told no deals, + 50activation fee,

Rang today to tell them to cancel, got offered no activation fee for the fibre , 10% off tv (not including HD or multi room) and half price fibre for 6 months, said no please cancel, so got 14days left on my broadband and 31days on tv, lets see if the ring me...

What sent me over the edge was my box downstairs is starting to die, they wanted £500 to replace it with a new HD box!!
  • hi, not sure about these forums or if i'm in the right place. apologise if it's in the wrong place.

Basically i have just cancelled sky. I was offered £53 for for tv plus the sports channels, broadband and phone. is this a good offer or is there a figure i should be aiming for.

I enjoy the sports channel however willing to give it up for a cheap talk talk package. (is talk talk the best package at present? had a quick look and virgin appear to have quite a good offer). Thanks.

Since the most I've seen charged for a Sky+HD is £249 I find that hard to believe.
Nevertheless, you could easily get a working box far more cheaply from E-Bay.
  • I am currently having hassle with virgin. I contacted sky last week and they offered me their 50% off deal. Spoke to virgin who offered to improve my broadband and give me a TiVo box for £62.40 . A man came and fitted the new TiVo today and only then did I find out that they had reduced my tv package to m from xl . I phoned to complain but they said that it would cost £ 12.00 to upgrade to xl. So I told them I was moving to sky. Is it worth contacting the complaints department to see if they can reinstate th xl.

Sounds like you won't be able to move to Sky (or threaten to) for at least twelve months. Accepting the deal you were offered will have tied you into a new minimum contract. I think you'll also find it difficult to "re-instate" an XL package without paying the extra.
